What we thought would be a vacation...

... it was the perfect time to be sick. We just watched movies on his laptop, American shows on the TV with 2 channels (Friends, Xena Warrior Princess…), cooked, and played Chess on our mini travel set. Overall, it was nice to relax but I know I started feeling a little bored.

Saturday came around and the storm was clearing (only a little bit of rain and clouds that morning). We then hopped on a ferry to another island, called Korcula.

Croatia beaches

... about to watch our second sunset here-it truly is a highlight so far for us. Originally we were only going to stay one night and drive into Split today, but the beauty of having Fred means that is we like a place, we can stay longer :) Our third campsite in Croatia is by far the best; I had to really force myself away from doing nothing to write this! Although I have to admit that I have a million dollar view while writing it :)

Hanging out at Zlatni Rat!

... beach but the small smooth pebbly rocks were quite comfortable to sit and/or lie on. The water here was quite clear and was actually not too cold, considering the previous rain and the strong winds. Now I finally had a chance to use my mask and snorkel and am really glad that I did not carry it around for three weeks without using it!

We got to see a number of small schools of fish, some sea urchins, tiny ...

Bol of Fun

... part of the beach in a little cove. We followed her vague directions and I walked to the cliff and looked down to see where we were. Something was immediately wrong with the color. Too much flesh tone always looks peculiar and we had stumbled onto the nudist part of the beach. My perceptions and expectations were quickly dashed. As David Sedaris.1 once said, "The people who aren't nudist should be and the ones who are shouldn't be". The evidence stretched out below me ...

Yes yes, No problem!

... ever. She kept speaking to us in Croatian with wild hand gestures, god only knows what she was trying to say. Maybe something about the giant alligators that lived under our bed but i doubt it. So at this point we decided to give the beach a test. We stepped out of our villa gates and BAM! There it was, a beach just waiting for us. Well that was easy. But we had heard tales of the beautiful sandspit, and thats what we really wanted. So we started marching up ...

What to do on Korcula...

... any sort of security or deposit, he just took the money and gave us the briefest of instruction on how to drive the thing. A good day, though I do wonder at our mindset when we sat on the one sandy beach of the island and threw what few pebbles we could find at a floating bottle. Why throw rocks there, when they were actually difficult to find?? Definately a great place, exactly what I was after when I came to the coast.

Zdravo!!

... to next.. stay tuned :o) One thing I almost forgot, Bol has an outdoor cinema. So sweet!! So far we've seen Batman Begins and Hitchikers Guide the Galaxy which we missed in London because of our budget cuts. And it's 2 doors down from our house. Our last night here tomorrow night so hopefully one more good movie before we go overlooking the ocean! Kristen.

Dubrovnik

... cooled by breezes and so more comfortable than in Stari Grad. The old town is very beautiful, a walled district with cobbled streets worn smooth with age. Restaurant staff stood out in the streets and tried to drag us in, but we found a hassle-free place called (not very Croatianly) "Toni's" and had a nice, cheap meal. We got the bus back to our apartment and got very lost in the dark, windy streets, got spooked but eventually found it ...
