Christmas Panto'

Went to see 'Aladdin' at the 'Opera House' in Manchester this evening. Borrowing 2 unsuspecting children for cover, we went to see a typical Panto. With bright and elaborate costumes, corny jokes that appeal to kids and adults it was an absolute scream. Best ...

Further ahead

Just finished some travel agent work for Jenni and Lin for their visits in February. It will be great to see them over here and they will enjoy a jam packed 2 weeks. Judy will be over sometime in July and there are proposals from some other friends later in 2010 we hope.

We are enjoying our ‘new lives’, missing family and friends a lot but looking forward to all that this time will enable us accomplish.

... the gorge up the gorge” debacle followed by kilometres of what, bog? on top of a mountain?!! where the hell were we?!! Also, damn the reservoir where, having run out of water, Ryan requested that I wade in and try and get some water for boiling. Cold! Muddy! Undrinkable! Squidgy!

Day 1 - The Ball Breaker

... back for me while I got something out of my pack, he didn’t, and the sheep almost got me.

See that Campsite?

After almost finishing the part of the Pennine that I call “The Ball Breaker” Ryan points down the mountain to a little campsite in the distance. It was far away but hope sprang back into my heart until he said, “See that campsite? Our campsite is only 2km from there.” YEARGH!!!

It has been a bit of a blur today, as well as the Royal Marsden we have been to Addenbrookes in Cambridge, THe Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham and now I am sitting in a cosy front room in Sheffield with a real fire!
I am excited about tomorrow as we will be going back to my home town of Newcastle. Yippee!!
I have taken a few pictures of the day.

Bye Bye Brum / Madness in Manchester

... a festive glow - it always makes me think that xmas is truly xmas when its dark and cold and there are chestnuts roasting, but I am looking forward to warmth, beaches and BBQ's for xmas. Had my obligatory cup of mulled german gluhwein - yum and my bratwurst, and wandered the numerous stalls with varied goods from complete tat to beautiful xmas decorations, wooden crafted toys and woollen hats and scarves. Didn't buy anything other than a ...

Congratulations!!

Firstly, because you have managed to find my blog and secondly, because you are now officially my armchair travel companions.

This seems like it will be the easiest way to keep you all up to date with my travels without having to write lots of separate emails and as I will also be able to illustrate my stories with photo's means that you can effectively travel with me from the comfort of your own home/office. "That's clever" hear you say, and indeed it is ...

Canterbury Tales and Northern Moonkays

... bed, but I was getting a local expert to show me around, tell me things that aren't in guide books and show me the places that locals go. I was also getting to see people in their home environment, and it's remarkable how different you are when you're in your hometown working and when you're in a hostel halfway around the world doing whatever you damn well please. My general feeling was, at some point in my life I'd be back in Europe. Places I'd miss I could go back to ...

5 Weeks to go.........

21st August 2006 Well we are closer than ever now and we are really excited about our trip. We are busy making the final, and I might add, the most important preparations. I am busy buying a whole new wardrobe to take with me while Daniel is busy trying to convince me that we really cant fit 10 pairs of my shoes in our backpack! I will let you know who wins that one! Our initial thoughts so far is that it will feel a bit strange being away for Christmas and having our ...
