... dip, drip, and twist. Then I got to watch the blissful look on the wife’s face as she took her first bite of melted deliciousness. We changed it up and ordered tartiflette (melted cheese baked on top of bacon, potatoes, and crème fraiche) and a raclette with peppercorn cheese, with chocolate mousse for dessert. We savored every bite and are now carrying the memories of our meals at Le Freti in the form of extra pounds. Worth it!

It's a good thing we didn't try to find Claire's place at midnight. Without WiFi at McD's, we never would have found her house without Google Map screenshots, despite her mother Carole's best efforts at sending us the address.  It turns out she lives in a small area outside Annecy called Seynod. We finally found her top floor apartment in a new development. Carole came home from work at noon and hosted us to a nice lunch of French wine and cheeses. Claire's little sister ...

Today we climbed the HC category Le Semnoz (ski field) climb. It was quoted at 16km at 7% but had some significant sections at 8 - 10%. The view at the top was amazing with Mont Blanc visible across Lake Annecy. After coming down we passed through some working villages and had lunch on the lake before returning home and dinner in the old ...

Hard day. A Griswold family travel day for sure. At a gas station/beer garden south of Stuttgart, Rachel left behind her money belt. She discovered it missing as we were trying to cross the Swiss border. Stressed to make Claire's house by dinner time in Annecy, I pressed the camper van hard to return north to find it. Amazingly, the clerk had it with all it's contents. Disaster averted until Rachel's shorts ...

    Rochefort

Next day we travelled on through the Vendee and Charente Maritime regions with an evening stay at Rochefort. A very interesting town, haunt of Cardinal Richilieu, and built as a naval defence base by Louis XIV. Much more our style, because it was small enough to walk about admiring the historic buildings and to see the pleasure harbour, and small commercial port. And it's the French home of oysters... Which they grade and sell like good ...
