It frreakin' SNOWED today. I was expecting a day of sunshine but I only got a 20 second preview of blue sky this morning outside of town on the way to Salzburg Zoo. Check out the first pic to see what I thought was the unveiling of the mountains I've been longing to see. But instead I got the beauty of snow for a few hours. It was only light, but so happy I got to see it (and it was the first snow of the season).

Back in Austria, it was time to get on the Maria & Mozart trail... I traced Maria's steps through Mirabell gardens where she and the kids sang 'Do Re Mi' around the fountain, and wandered through the graves of St Peter's where the family hid while escaping the Nazis, though apparently this was recreated in the studio. The fountain in front of the cathedral, scene of 'I Have Confidence in Me' was less visible as the whole ...

Finally made it to the place I've most been looking forward to seeing and its a pretty special place. My dreams had involved a bit of snow, but alas, not to be. I saw some on the mountains today during the Sound of Music tour when we went to Mondsee to see the chapel where Maria and the captain were married. Side note: the travel guide complemented me in front of everyone for my beautiful ...

Salzburg: an Austrian town steeped in Italian baroque architecture, Mozart, and more recently the Sound of Music. Bordering the Bavarian Alps, Salzburg oozes elegance and beauty. On the edge of the Salzach (Salt) river, the town was originally known for its trade in salt. In 700 AD, the town was given to Bishop Rupert in order to christianize the area and Salzburg remained an independent city until Napoleon. (might have had something to do with the formidable fortress on the ...

      Salzburg - Radler discovery!

... more than the tiny soda portions they give you here in Europe. I have to admit it surprised me too. After all, I do like the Mexican cheladas - Mexican beer with a lot of lemon juice, but I wouldn't drink more than one once in a while. However, cheladas are not sweet at all. Radlers are only slightly sweet and I think that must be it since I have been having one for lunch and for dinner!

Thanks to Rick Steves, I know that the Salzach river is named ...
