Rob and I stayed at a hotel within the airport as we had a 10am flight to catch the next morning. Consequently we had just a few hours to explore! We discovered that we could catch a bus into Miami Beach at a cost of only $5 return, as opposed to $50 for a taxi!

From the weekend of 8/22/03-8/25/03. The following is a true story:Friday 8/22 5:00 Checked in at front desk. Decor was cool.5:10 Entered 10x12 (maybe?) room to a muggy 80 degrees. Ashes in the ashtray in this "Non-smoking" room. Tried to turn thermostat down, the dial on the thermostat was not even attached, and fell to the floor.5:12 Addressed heat situation with front desk - "It is all central air and cannot be controlled individually. Nothing we can do."5:15 Back in room; checked out Lilliputian bathroom, the "Hot" water knob broken and inoperable.5:17 Turned back the comforter to reveal hair and makeup on the pillowcase.5:25 Checked out.Perhaps this was an "off" day for them, but if you want clean and comfortable, keep looking.
Great place...highly recommend!
My friend and I spent 9 days at this fabulous hotel. The location is spectacular, located right on Ocean Drive and the front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Furthermore, although the rooms aren't extremely large, they range the standard room size and are tastefully appointed. I am going back again this year and am greatly looking forward to my stay! :-)

Great Location, in the heart of South Beach, Friendly Staff. You'll get more than you pay for. The front desk guy (pablo), is the funniest guy in Miami.
What a gem
the cavalier hotel is really a gem in the heart of south beach. I was reading the reviews and was really hesitant on booking a room here but the price was tooo good ( you feel me).the standard rooms are small but very hip and i was really feeling the decor.From the moment i arrived the front desk recieved me with a warm smile and were very attentive.Their frontdesk/concierge staff really went out of their way to make my vacation a memorable one.My hat goes off to (julio) who was able to provide me with everything from a bobby pin to dinner reservations......will return soon03/15/03
Location is everything! A stone's throw from the New Cafe and the former Versace mansion. The surrounding hotels are very swanky, this is a little, reasonably priced gem. Nice amenities in the room and a warm, helpful staff. Would definitely go back.
Ocean Drive... YEAH BABY
Well... the hotel REALLY hooked me up! The desk person asked if I would like to be upgrade and did it for me at no charge. They are so friendly... everynight I was asked if I wanted reservations for dinner and even put me on VIP lists at all the hotspots.
The Customer is Always Wrong!
Where do we start with this hotel NIGHTMARE? The front desk clerk (very unhappy with his job) scolded us for having two different names on our reservation. We had booked through a hotel reservation network instead of calling the hotel directly and this was rocket science. The second night, after forseeing a problem with my girlfriend having one nights room charge on her credit card and the second night on mine, we went to the front desk to ensure there would be no issue with "not checking out". After being told that this was no problem (Yeah right!), we received two phone calls at THREE IN THE MORNING inquiring why we had never checked out of our room! I would not even recommend my worst enemy to stay in this hotel!
I went there with great expectations after booking my stay at the Cavalier Hotel. The Cavalier that promised a fitness room, minibar in room, Bar/Lounge, babysitting service, ect. - there was nothing! The place is dark and creepy - scarry! The room was as big as a shoe box and of course, no minibar...and no dressers, just small and cramped! As far as all the other amenities go...there was nothing, no gym, no bar/lounge, no babysitting service - nothing! I stayed for about 15 minuted and realized I did not want ot spend my vacation there. I immediately went downstairs to talk to the front desk, told them about the false advertising, and still had a hard time trying to get my money back...as a matter of fact, I am still at this battle....now a month after my vacation!! While the gentleman at the front desk was very amiable and understanding, the manager, Claudia, was the rudest I have ever come into contact with. I have contacted her many times via fax and phone trying to get the credit back on my credit card as promised by her once I showed proof of the false advertising, but she has yet to comply. This place and more so the servise had been so discomforting that I have even contacted the Better Business Bureau!
Investigate other Hotels First!
The hotel was previously run by Island Outpost and still keeps items around to remind people of that fact. But I'm sure it's gone down the hill since then.
I had a problem with the door key working and the hotel staff seemed incompetant and unwilling to remedy the problem fully. They didn't even offer to put me in a different room to solve the problem. It was a very frustrating situation. I guess they are reasonably priced for a reason - you get what you pay for.
I will say that the location is great, and Julio was the only person on staff that appeared to care - somewhat. I would highly recommend you investigate other hotels before you choose this trap.
Nice place - great location
This hotel is nice - small, but clean and well-managed, with a trendy art-deco look, and in an excellent location on Ocean Drive - just a few hundred yards from the beach.
