... it was time to head for a closer look. We switched mounts and rode down to the tombs of the workers who built the pyramids and parked our horse & camel. We intended on walking to the Cairo Tower downtown, but because of our new location, have to travel by taxi both ways. Cairo Tower opened in 1960 and was completely redone and reopened in March 2009. It is Cairo's tallest building and the views from it are quite picturesque on a clear day. However, the winds are gusting and the sand is blowing in the distance, obscuring the view of the pyramids but we do manage to see ...

... trying to sell things on the streets, there is garbage everywhere, and the air quality makes modern LA seem like the High Sierras. It is not exactly the most pleasant city to visit, especially if one is coming from a westernized background. I would recommend going to another Egyptian city as quickly as one can see the Pyramids, Sphinx, a mosque and the Egyptian museum, which only would take a few hours. Glad we came, probably won't come back.

... and funnily enough we see a St Kerelos that looks familiar. There on the wall is his likeness..and at our local medical centre the same likeness hangs! We trot down the street back to the bus, its like 3pm and hot and there is wandering kitty on the street, so cute, so flea bitten..I still want to take one home :) There has been a man in suit riding with us on the bus and as we pull away from the church we appear to have a police escort.
