After a splendid breakfast, we lounged around and soaked up the ambiance of our "retro-edgy" Porches' room before setting off for Heath. We were due after lunchtime at Jo and Phineas's little cabin in the woods. Maura and I were giddy with excitement as we drove closer to their idyllic mountain retreat, "The Clearing." We had not seen MTC's aunt ...

... is the highest peak in Massachusetts at 3,491 feet and one of those state high points with a road to the top. West Virginia, New Jersey, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Hampshire are some of others I can think of where state’s highest point can be accessed by road. There’s no challenge in that but Graylock provides some gorgeous views in all directions on a bright sunny ...

Williamstown - Perfect New England College Town

I recall driving through Williamstown on a family road trip to Canada in the early 1980s right around the time I was starting to think about colleges. I had heard of Williams College and somehow liked the idea of a small college in a mountain town. I wanted to go to school some place warmer, though, so didn't apply, but recall one of my middle school friends who went to a different high school ...
