Fun in the Sun!

Most relaxing vacation we've had ever! All-inclusive is the ONLY way to go for a vacation like this where not much sight seeing is in the itinerary. We had all the food and drinks we could manage plus the non-motorized water sports such as snorkeling and Hobie windsail. We could have kayaked but didn't get around to it. The nightly entertainment was cheesy but fun (cheesy made it fun!). The wait staff couldn't have been more friendly, attentive and helpful. I couldn't believe how hard they wo...

... halt and kneel at the bottom of the sea fifteen metres under. We switch our torches off, suddenly it is pitch dark with just the sound of my breathing filling my senses. (How very Darth Vader, love it). Then by waving our arms, as if by magic, thousands of fluorescent tiny lights appear excited by the movement and they fill the water surrounding us, a truly moving experience for me.

Off to Peru Next...

Holiday week 2008 in Chan Chemuyil

... other out with just about anything. Anyway, Festivus turned out to be a huge success!!! E probably has the most (and best) pictures on here camera. Our little point and shoot was not cut out for nighttime shots of people dancing and having fun so Chris even started using E's to take pics. There were kids of all ages dancing to tunes of all genres and the drinking went on for hours. I seem to remember a cakefight too. Was that Liz's cake? People chipped in ...

Chan Chemuyil September 2008

... caulk and some other odds and ends. We stopped at the stores of the Bahia Principe but the bugs were biting so bad we left right away. We were exhausted from Xel-Ha anyway. Tuesday, September 9 - Work, work, work...Chris woke up and caulked all the ceiling lines. It helped with the geckos and resultant poop immediately. This was one of those inexpensive improvements that goes a long way toward aesthetic and practicality. We are so happy with the results. Meanwhile I ...

... Claudia as well now because she has great prices and she now is getting a better SpringAir brand which felt really cushy. Her prices are definitely a value considering truck delivery and the convenience of time, especially since our rental truck for the week did not work out from Hertz. We elected to have most of our options for appliances done through her too. Afterward I met with Joe and Renee again to finalize the concrete sectional sofa design and layout. It was good ...

Chapter 1: My Journey East

... City could easily make it there in five. I grabbed my bags of bricks and dragged them (literally!) to the taxi stand, and we headed towards the Tapo bus station. Traffic was moving well all around us. Literally. I swear I saw a turtle laughing at us as he cruised past us. How had I managed to get the slowest taxi driver (or should I say, ONLY slow taxi driver) in Mexico City? Isn't there a law against that? I didn't think such a person ...

Day Eight

... especially if you stay away from the mouth of the lagoon. Mark and I make the mistake of snorkeling out there against the current and saw nothing, so started to swim back into calmer waters. Aaaah, this is such a fun place to snorkel as there are so many coral formations and cave-like features to go in and out of, full of many different kinds of colorful fish. After snorkeling for a couple of hours ...

Day 9 - Back to Akumal

... peninsula of broken rocky razor blades while wearing a pair of cheap $3.00 rubber flip-flops. None-the-less we press on. Up and down we go, winding our way deeper and deeper into jungle on our right, and higher up a cliff over the water on our left. Chris' rubber flip-flops cost more than mine, which I suppose is a testament to the 3 inch height they add to her petite frame. I'm thinking that this is rapidly ceasing to be much fun for ...

Day 6 - Mezzanine Night

... pictures here for some reason. So I stole these pix from his photo album on flickr. Thanks Zach!) We get to Mezzanine, and as there will be a band tonight, we noticed the various "tour buses" parked on the side of the road. In fact we parked behind several of them. By the way, a tour bus in Tulum looks a lot like a Volkswagen microbus circa the 1960's. I'm quire surprised they made the trip. We combined our two reservations for ...
