Historical Traveler Reviews of Catalonia Aragon Barcelona

Nice little hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Nice little hotel. good tube and rail connections from Clot station.

even walked back from town centre one afternoon via the cathederal. The room was small but clean and quadruple glazed onto the main road. I am sure there are nicer hotels in town but not for 40 quid for the room per night. Did get done for 2X breakfasts on checking out which they claimed were not included!! but it was only 20 euro's. I would recomend it to a friend and go back myself.

Ideal for short trips

We were booked into this hotel "cold" by Ryanair and then read a couple of the bad reviews on this site. BUT, we found the Hotel great. The rooms, although not overlarge, were adequate, clean and well equipped.

The staff were friendly and helpful with free town guide and advice.

Breakfast was superb. The Metro at Clot takes you to all places of interest in the city for 1.10 euros (80p!). The hotel provides a secure, ticketed left luggage service on check-out day - ideal if you are on a late evening return flight. If flying from Girona use the train from Clot (6.35 euros) and the airport bus from Girona Stn (1.65 euros). We would definitely stay again.

Great Value for money

Went to Barcelona for a break with three friends. Booked the Hotel on the Internet. It was a little out of the way but the metro is yards away and you go direct to the centre with no hassles. Although i did think the exterior street was a bit dissapointing, the Hotel itself was great. Rooms very clean, bathrooms spotless and like everyone else thought the breakfast was superb. Recommended the Hotel to friends who also enjoyed their stay and now am going back in a few months with my husband.

Lock up your valuables, expect to be insulted

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I went to Barcelona for a couple of days. Having read of the problems with street-thieves in Barcelona, we decided to leave some of our valuables in our hotel room, safely locked in a suitcase.

Imagine our distress when we returned from our sight-seeing to find the valuables (worth about £850) had been stolen. The door to the room was securely locked when we left and there was no sign of forced entry to the room, so we think that the cleaning staff stole the items. We can not prove this of course, but there is no other reasonable explanation.

The story does not end there however. When we went to the front desk to notify them of the theft, the staff member said it was "impossible" that anything had been stolen from our room and that we must have lost it when we were out. I pointed out it may be possible that a staff member may have been responsible and she said that this was also impossible. She was extremely rude, insinuated that we were lying and only begrudingly called the police. I asked for the name of the person who cleaned our room and was refused. I asked to speak to the housekeeping manager, and was again refused, to be told that they were not in the hotel, and not in Barcelona. I found this particular staff-member's attitude absolutely disgraceful.

Upon our return to London, I contacted the hotel chain's head office (Hoteles Catalones, whose motto is "Buenos Hoteles") with my complaint, only to be fobbed off. Although they said the matter had been investigated and the staff member dealt with internally, they refused to give details and offered no compensation. This leads me to believe that no action was taken which in my opinion is totally unacceptable. I would not recommend anyone stay at the Hotel Aragon Barcelona. I know I will not be staying there again, nor in any other Hoteles Catalones hotel. Buenos Hoteles? I don't think so.

Irish user must have stayed at a different hotel!!!

The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Clot underground, which takes you to Catalunya Square in 5 minutes. Around the corner are a plethora of local boutiques, bars, and restaurants. The hotel is itself clean, bright and great value for money (less than £40 per ROOM per night incl the biggest freshest continental breakfast i've experienced for some time.) The evening meal we had was great value and of good quality. The staff were by far the most pleasant people we met in Catalan, as we found most Catalunyans could'nt speak English, French or Spanish allegedly, a bit like people in Newquay only speaking Cornish!!!

Weekend from Hell

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked a weekend break for myself and my mother to go over to Barcelona on a Saturday morning and return home on the following morning. I found this hotel on the Internet at a very reasonable price, as it was for one night only, I decided to book it. I was told it was within walking distance to the main shopping area..it was if you wanted to walk for an hour..there was no food served in the evening when we got back and on the way back to the hotel in the taxi he didn't know where it was because it was so far out..I was disgusted...the only good thing about this Hotel??, was the breakfast the next morning...it was lovely..toooo far out of the way and more like a hostel than a hotel....

Pleasant surprise

Having heard from a rival tourrist bureau that this hotel was "awful", we were surprised to find a hotel excellent in all aspects though a bit far away from the centre. If we pay a return visit to Barcelona we shall certainly go to the Aragon again.

Lucky or what!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read the review on the Adagio Hotel, thank God we didn't stay there. Instead we stayed 3 nights at the 3*Aragon Hotel, carrer d' arago just a few metres walk from Clot Metro line. The hotel was excellent, clean modern comfortable serving an outstanding breakfast with just about everything you could possibly want on the menu and more. Would definately stay there again and would highly reccommend it.

Great, out of the way hotel

from biggerfoot
My wife and I spent 4 days in Barcelona in Oct, 2003. Reasonably priced hotels near Las Ramblas had no rooms for the time we were there. The Catalonia Aragon is a couple of short blocks from the Clot Metro and rail station. The breakfast was superior.

Off the beaten path....

from BabsSC
My daughter and I stayed here the last week of Jan of 2003. This hotel is way off the beaten path, a little run down, but the trains are only 2 blocks away and the Segrada is 4 blocks. Rooms small, nothing fancy. Great staff. The breakfast alone makes this place great. Was able to only eat two meals a day. Full spread. Our breakfast came with our room, so recommend that portion to get. Fresh baked pastries that you can smell throughtout the lobby. Great bang for your buck!
