... they have been eradicated! Both were extremely destructive to the landscape. Our other stop was at Middle Ranch and Little Harbor Overlook. Our guide has lived on Catalina for 35 years and was a wealth of knowledge. He had even been in a couple of movies as an extra. He told of several that were filmed on the island, but hey I'm old, can't remember which ones.
Some history of Catalina (admit it, you HAVE missed this):
... everything one needs (Seahawks on TV and ice cream) and the natives are very friendly.
Catalina Island was bought in the early 1900’s by William and Ada Wrigley. Those are the very same Wrigleys that make the gum and have a baseball stadium in Chicago bearing their name. He and his wife immediately fell in love with it and spent the rest of their lives making it what it is today. Phillip, the son of William and Ada, donated ...
... of eating s'mores and drinks. If you were going to be here a couple of days be sure you make a trip over to Jenks Lake. This is a 10 minute drive from the campground and is a great place to fish or kayak. There are no rentals here though so you must bring your own gear. This is also a great place to take pictures and have a picnic. Although we had a few unexpected surprises overall we like the simplicity and beauty of this place and will definitely head back here ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Catalina Beach House Avalon
From the moment we arrived we had an excellent time. The shuttle driver informed us of all the good points of interest. Upon our check-in, the front desk clerk Chris, was very helpful in planning our tour attractions. The room was very clean, comfortable, and affordable. I will definitely be a repeat customer and recommend this hotel to my friends.
Had a great stay at a great little hotel. Rooms were very clean and nice. Ours had a kitchenette and jacuzzi tub. We hardly left the room.
Not a real large room but nicely put together with a affordable price.
I give it two thumbs up.
Hell of a hill, but enjoyed the stay
Went for a mid week getaway by myself, and found the Cat Beach house with the most affordable rates, and many ammentities. Loved it will go back again.
I Liked It
Other than the walk up that damn hill I think the place is great. Each room has a private bath. Our room had a kitchenette with everything you might need provided, right down to the coffee to put in the coffeemaker. There is a patio area with a BBQ (utensils once again provided), the room was exceptionally clean, the bed was comfortable enough and there was an air conditioner, a T.V. and a VCR in the room.
They'll loan you 2 movies per day from their video library (which has a decent selection of movies) or if you'ld like something a bit more adult oriented you can go to the video shop downtown and rent something else(around $5 plus a $20 per movie deposit ). I mean really, what more can you expect for around $40 per night? tax included.
Changed my mind about staying
I found this hotel in the Internet. I was looking for a hotel for an upcoming trip to Catalina, so I made a few phone calls around the island. When I called this hotel, the person quoted me $65 for the particular night I wanted to stay (Sunday), then I decided to stay 2 nights (Saturday & Sunday), but the rate went up to $145/per night.
Then I read the bad reviews this hotel has on the internet, and I decided to pay a little more for something worth my money.
1.TOO EXPENSIVE for a Crappy room
Okay, friendly, but a little disappointed
The staff was friendly and efficient. However, the room we had was okay, but the bathroom/shower was very small.
Cute little place
Cute little place, clean and fairly quiet room. Has a kitchenette in the room and an outdoor seating/barbecue area. We stayed there mid-week and got a great deal. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were very small though...we plan to visit again soon and we'll probably try a different hotel hopefully with a larger room.
My Family and I have been visiting the Catalina Beach House Hotel for well over 12 Summer Seasons now,(12 years). We have never encountered anything except for a great vacation. The Staff has always been over extensive on Hospitality, and have always made us feel right at home.
My recommendatins are if you are planning a trip to Beautiful Catalina Island, we highly recommend this Hotel....
Cool little place!
Upon arrival, my wife and I were greeted at the boat and brought to the hotel. The hotel was nice and the people there were excellent. The manager I think her name was Diane went above and beyond helping us plan our whole time on the island. The room nice with a kitchen and everthing. One night we decided to spend in and were able to check out a couple of movies from their large collection. I had a great time and I would do it all over again.
