... will return to Code Yellow which means that self-serve venues will revert to their normal state and specialty dining venues will reopen. We have two formal nights, one semi-formal night and then our final night of "elegant casual" remaining. They always make the final night casual because travelers must pack their bags and place them in the corridors before retiring so that bags can be transported to the hold for disembarkation early ...
... And the streets were quite crowded for this time of year.
The weather was nice, a bit chilly, but nothing like the fierce storm last year when we camped on the other side. The boat ride over was a bit rough (and later in the day people had it much worse), but I didn't get sick, which means it wasn't too bad. The return was smooth as silk, a bit unusual for late in the afternoon, but no complaints from me.
... br> I then heded south - a long way south - through Huntington Beach to Newport Beach where I grabbed my first coffee of the day at 2pm! Not a good day in that respect. The place has a great beach and is home to the first ever Ruby's Diner on the end of the pier. Very nice. the town is quaint and a great place to do be if you want the beach - sun, sea and sand - it certainly ...

I've enjoyed visits from a few friends since we moved. Here's Heidi, taken on our walk around Cabrillo Marina:
And Joan, overlooking the ocean, along Paseo del Mar:
Of course, I had to make a visit to the local public library:
... The girsl went to Mammoth to shop the sales at the outlet stores. We all helped with the sagging economy. I ordered a new alternator as Dieter said this was necessary. While in Mammoth we met up with some of the guys who just happened to be in town. It is only a 20 mile trip from the campground. When I got back Dieter removed the alternator from my truck and said he would take care of it. Both Lange's were in charge of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Catalina Beach House Avalon
From the moment we arrived we had an excellent time. The shuttle driver informed us of all the good points of interest. Upon our check-in, the front desk clerk Chris, was very helpful in planning our tour attractions. The room was very clean, comfortable, and affordable. I will definitely be a repeat customer and recommend this hotel to my friends.
Had a great stay at a great little hotel. Rooms were very clean and nice. Ours had a kitchenette and jacuzzi tub. We hardly left the room.
Not a real large room but nicely put together with a affordable price.
I give it two thumbs up.
Hell of a hill, but enjoyed the stay
Went for a mid week getaway by myself, and found the Cat Beach house with the most affordable rates, and many ammentities. Loved it will go back again.
I Liked It
Other than the walk up that damn hill I think the place is great. Each room has a private bath. Our room had a kitchenette with everything you might need provided, right down to the coffee to put in the coffeemaker. There is a patio area with a BBQ (utensils once again provided), the room was exceptionally clean, the bed was comfortable enough and there was an air conditioner, a T.V. and a VCR in the room.
They'll loan you 2 movies per day from their video library (which has a decent selection of movies) or if you'ld like something a bit more adult oriented you can go to the video shop downtown and rent something else(around $5 plus a $20 per movie deposit ). I mean really, what more can you expect for around $40 per night? tax included.
Changed my mind about staying
I found this hotel in the Internet. I was looking for a hotel for an upcoming trip to Catalina, so I made a few phone calls around the island. When I called this hotel, the person quoted me $65 for the particular night I wanted to stay (Sunday), then I decided to stay 2 nights (Saturday & Sunday), but the rate went up to $145/per night.
Then I read the bad reviews this hotel has on the internet, and I decided to pay a little more for something worth my money.
1.TOO EXPENSIVE for a Crappy room
Okay, friendly, but a little disappointed
The staff was friendly and efficient. However, the room we had was okay, but the bathroom/shower was very small.
Cute little place
Cute little place, clean and fairly quiet room. Has a kitchenette in the room and an outdoor seating/barbecue area. We stayed there mid-week and got a great deal. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were very small though...we plan to visit again soon and we'll probably try a different hotel hopefully with a larger room.
My Family and I have been visiting the Catalina Beach House Hotel for well over 12 Summer Seasons now,(12 years). We have never encountered anything except for a great vacation. The Staff has always been over extensive on Hospitality, and have always made us feel right at home.
My recommendatins are if you are planning a trip to Beautiful Catalina Island, we highly recommend this Hotel....
Cool little place!
Upon arrival, my wife and I were greeted at the boat and brought to the hotel. The hotel was nice and the people there were excellent. The manager I think her name was Diane went above and beyond helping us plan our whole time on the island. The room nice with a kitchen and everthing. One night we decided to spend in and were able to check out a couple of movies from their large collection. I had a great time and I would do it all over again.
