Absolutely brilliant spot to get away! Admittedly we were only here 2 days but it was a highlight. Kayaking around with just us on the water. Swimming on a deserted beach and eating endless amounts of food! Look forward to coming again. Did via a Imperial Junk boat cruise $120 USD 3 days 2 night.

A magical spot, walking distance from the center of town and tucked away in a prvate cove. The "estate" is huge, room for al quests to sprawl out on lawn chairs, under bamboo huts, on kayaks and windsurfers. The outdoor private stone shower is a dream.

So if you ever make your way to Vietnam (and I would really encourage you to) you must, MUST, visit Cat Ba Island. I absolutely loved it here and ended up staying longer than planed. Cat Ba Island is the largest island in a cluster of islands making up Ha Long Bay which is a UNESCO World Heritage Sight. The town of Cat Ba is really laid back and was a nice change from Hanoi as it's immensely walk able, quiet and gorgeous landscape. If your into outdoor activities, Cat Ba has it all. ...

... a necklace, I swear. Well, sorry about your luck. We still aren't sure what happened or whether or not we were scammed, but after a 4 hour bus ride out of Hanoi, we were sitting in the marina and waiting on our vessel when the woman behind me asked in a fabulous British accent, "excuse me. Have you been informed that our tour is cancelled? Our hotel called to let us know on the way down, but the bus kept going and the guide hasn't said ...

We were picked up and then headed straight to the boat where we were greeted by our guide juan! We headed to the kayaking spot and then went to a very crowded beach where we climbed the pagoda , 400 steps! And extremely hot! We went for a swim and got to know the people on our boat! We then had dinner followed by failed squid fishing and a few beers until the early morn with the medics, the French Croat couple, The Abu Dhabi couple and the Essex couple! G even made it to ...

... it looks very nice. Big beds, clean and very friendly family. It's called a homestay, but is much more hostel-like than the homestay in Sapa. We have been out to explore a little, though we were very hungry having not had the chance for a proper meal today. (I worry that the blog is sounding like I don't eat at all, it's usually just not that interesting- unless I haven't, in which case I make far too much a deal about it!). ...

... the top deck of the boat capturing photos of the beautiful area. We often had the top deck all to ourselves probably because the other tourists didn’t want to face the sun. We on the other hand, like true Aussies, were basking in it – and with my limited sunscreen I was losing my nobleness.

Our first stop was a small beach where Steve was the first in the water. You can always tell the Aussie at the beach as we are the ones swimming with gay abandon in to ...
