Absolutely brilliant spot to get away! Admittedly we were only here 2 days but it was a highlight. Kayaking around with just us on the water. Swimming on a deserted beach and eating endless amounts of food! Look forward to coming again. Did via a Imperial Junk boat cruise $120 USD 3 days 2 night.

A magical spot, walking distance from the center of town and tucked away in a prvate cove. The "estate" is huge, room for al quests to sprawl out on lawn chairs, under bamboo huts, on kayaks and windsurfers. The outdoor private stone shower is a dream.

After having a decent look around for a decent deal in Hanoi we finally found a great company to do Halong Bay with. We chose to go with Imperial Cruise Junk boat and got it for $120 USD for 3 days and 2 nights which seemed pretty sweet, especially as it included all food!

... later, we spot our boat, anchored a couple of hundred meters outside the marina. It's a fairly large visit, over 100 feet long and four decks high. After boarding, we are escorted, with our welcome cocktail, to the sun deck. Sadly, it's still foggy. The rest of the passengers/guests arrive about 30 minutes later and we start motoring off into the bay. Along with dozens of other ships, day trippers and over nighters alike, we start weaving our ...

After a sort of rough night's sleep on the bus we arrived in Hanoi. Got off and had to find our way to another Bus stop where we would be able to catch our next bus to HaiPhong from where we would take a ferry to Island of Cat Ba. We were a bit under time pressure as wikitravel stated that the last ferry would leave around 3pm. So we decided to take a cab that would drive us and our bags to the bus stop. With some suspicion for taxi drivers ...

    Halong Bay - Day 1

Having booked a 2 day, 1 night tour of Halong bay I was promptly picked up by the 'papaya' company tour bus at 8.30. I had decided to go for the more relaxed cruise of Halong Bay's limestone mounds rather than the party boat option so when I boarded the bus I was greeted by a group of over 50's and one couple in their 30's. Seemed like it was going to be a fun trip! 4 hours and an overpriced pitstop later we arrived at Halong City harbour, the gateway to Halong Bay. ...

... I happily plugged in my phone and let the music play. Most of the evening was then spent chatting, drinking cocktails during the boat's happy hour, exchanging travel stories so far... Oh and wedding stories! How romantic! Emma and I had got to know two lovely recently-wed couples, Aussie/Canadian Ben and Sarah and fellow Brits, James and Jacqui, who were such a laugh and were a wonderful addition to our trip. Big shout out to them! Those of us still somehow awake at ...
