A magical spot, walking distance from the center of town and tucked away in a prvate cove. The "estate" is huge, room for al quests to sprawl out on lawn chairs, under bamboo huts, on kayaks and windsurfers. The outdoor private stone shower is a dream.

Woke up, had breakie on the boat. First stop was an oyster farm, interesting the way they farm them. Got my mum a pearl for her bday. Back on the boat and then changed over to a smaller one and headed to cat ba island. Looks beautiful. Ended up in ...

... The scenery is beautiful but the marine park is heavily polluted. When you add the over charging and the special weekend rate its puts Cat Ba firmly behind Sa Pa and our disappointment has us wishing we'd done it the other way around.

We bumped into Gonzo and his swimshorts, they were negotiating massage terms. He leaves today and continues his trip by bike. We'll catch the bus and boat back to Hanoi tomorrow for just a day before the start of our long journey South.

... to the top on our mopeds, some people were walking but it looked like a lot of effort and we didn't come travelling for hard work. We reached the top and even though a storm was brewing it was a really impressive view of Cat Ba, the sea and islets popping up through the water. The sun was setting which made the view even more beautiful. Fort Cannon also has tunnels which were used in the WW2, which a few people in our group walked through. After Fort Cannon we rode back ...

... and I were sharing a double so that was a bit of a challenge to start with. We are used to being our own captains at home and Regan had the harder job following me as he was in the back seat. We explored about 3 of the islands and marvelled at the different rock formations. Time for a quick shower and pack up of our gear before the third activity of the morning began. Summer spring rolls cooking class, basically we got to build our rolls and learn ...

... pretty much any other thing, but you wouldn't believe how exhausting it can be. Especially when you are travelling fast. I'm glad I had a chance to recuperate before my trip to Laos. I'm also thankful for the delightful boutique hotel Rebekah had booked and let me stay with her for cheap. Free, delicious breakfast, good air con, clean room, nice shower, tv, friendly staff and good company. I couldn't have asked for a better place to veg out. Thanks Bek!! Off to ...
