Absolutely brilliant spot to get away! Admittedly we were only here 2 days but it was a highlight. Kayaking around with just us on the water. Swimming on a deserted beach and eating endless amounts of food! Look forward to coming again. Did via a Imperial Junk boat cruise $120 USD 3 days 2 night.

A magical spot, walking distance from the center of town and tucked away in a prvate cove. The "estate" is huge, room for al quests to sprawl out on lawn chairs, under bamboo huts, on kayaks and windsurfers. The outdoor private stone shower is a dream.

After having a decent look around for a decent deal in Hanoi we finally found a great company to do Halong Bay with. We chose to go with Imperial Cruise Junk boat and got it for $120 USD for 3 days and 2 nights which seemed pretty sweet, especially as it included all food!

The guesthouse has pretty great dorm rooms, nicely air conditioned and big beds. We were both very grateful for a good nights sleep. The tour we booked yesterday was an earlyish start meeting in Cat Ba centre for 8am. From there we caught a bus to the port and the tour began. There were about 17 of us on the boat, which seemed a nice amount; not too many people that there was no room to enjoy the views, but enough for some liveliness. The tour started with a cruise around Lan ...

... Saigon) 30th April 1975. It marked the end of Vietnam War. In current days it was a 5 day public holiday period for all Vietnamese and I suspect the many Vietnamese families on board were there to celebrate. More of this later as what I learnt about the wars would fill an entire blog and this one is being reserved for calm and a tranquil setting.

Our second day we cruised further south and away from most of the other day cruises to a larger island called Cat Ba, supposedly ...

... I fled. They went for Agnes and Hana, the Norwegian girls, who fled. They went for Phil, the German, who fended them off with his towel. They went for a French lady, leaving her two daughters terrified and in tears. Nobody was actually hurt, but it was pretty scary. Monkeys are vicious little things. They could literally rip your face off. Back to the safety of my hotel now, but I'm meeting my New Boat Friends after dinnee for drinks. They're a lot younger than ...

... to get some rather fantastic views of Halong Bay. It truly is an astounding place to see and there area an astounding number of islands. Even though the skies were cloudy during our visit, the mist added to the views, making the islands seem mysterious. Halong Bay would be beautiful during any type of weather, but we enjoyed the cool temperatures and the sight of the fog enveloping the islands and floating just above the water. Next, we are off to Sa ...
