Cat Co 3 Beach, Cat Ba Town Cat Ba, Vietnam
I went on a three day tour with a really nice group of people. On wednesday, we went kayacking around Halong Bay, saw some really big limestone caves and then spent the night on the boat. It was so funny as the 3 English boys boys bought a whole crate of beer, only to have it confiscated by the tour guide (anyone would think this is a communist country). They were trying to distract him to steel the beer and ended up jumping into the sea at midnight in protest. The guide was not happy when th...
Hanoi, Ha Nội, Vietnam helena80Top 3 Nicknames given to me on my trip: 1) Osama 2) Abe Lincoln 3) Jesus Backpacker's Trail: A route chosen by a backpacker to visit all of the mainstream, touristy places in a given country, probably following a guidebook such as Lonely Planet. I blame my own laziness. Or maybe the convincing tour guide at Hanoi Backpackers. Its always tempting to book a tour when everything is laid out for you and you get what you pay for. The challenge of discovering a touristy place independently never ge...

Cat Ba, Vietnam snurras... karsts creating shadows against the water. We stopped at a small floating village where we kayaked around the karsts for an hour. Once back there was time for sunset swimming and we jumped off the side of the boat into the very salted water. This was the first time on our entire trip that we had seen and swam in the sea.
In the evening after another amazing meal we laid on the sun beds on the top of our boat and watched the stars in a cloudless sky ...
Halong Bay, Vietnam amyandtom... doesn't win there is something seriously wrong. It really was breathtaking. After lunch we had an hour to chill out so everyone headed to the sun deck to soak in the scenery.

The junk arrived in the area in which it would be docking for the night, from there we were transferred onto a smaller boat again which would be taking us to Hang Sung Sot, which is the largest cave in Halong Bay. Looking at it from the outside it didn't look too much, but once inside I was once ...
Halong Bay, Vietnam bazzrosetravels... road! We also visited Hospital Cave, went to Cat ba 2 beach and had a swim. We had to wait a day to go and visit Halong Bay due to bad weather. Halong Bay is beautiful, we had a few problems with the boat driver as he didn't really take us where we were suppose to go but i had an amazing day anywway, on a boat with 5 other peoples, we sailed through the beautiful limestone islands, did a bit of kayaking, snorkeling (altough ...
Cat Ba, Vietnam teamcohenhall... the top and was so glad that i stuck with it! the view of the bay of the beautiful islands and the beaming sun was picturesque. we were all so wrecked when we got the top and were slightly peeved when we had to go down the same way. it was extremely slippy and so many times i nearly slipped. ash one of the guys that was with us, slipped a few times and i was so sure i was gonna fall. thankfully i didn't but it was just as difficult going down as going up. but we all got through it ...
Halong Bay, Vietnam bridyfitz... Vietnamese city. I know this sounds silly but so many cities have a backpacker area and it's all pizza, chips and souvenir shops but even in the backpacker district there were lots of people going about their business and plenty of Vietnamese eating at the stalls set up on the streets. This also meant it wad loud and bustling from before dawn till late in the evening, all those scooters make a lot of noise and the cars honk their horns constantly too.

We ...
Halong Bay, Vietnam feeandpete... just when the drinking was starting. We had a great time with the Dutch, Ozzie, Israeli, German, and British peeps. We were quite lucky to run into such a fun group because the crew on the boat were pretty much just *******s. It could have been ugly, but, as usual, we were happy making our own party. Sunned too much, jumped off the top of the boat too much, drank too much and stayed up too much. I need ...
