We decided that after our experience of an overnight train from Singapore to KL, that we would travel to Penang via Ipoh on the bus instead - and get a hotel in Ipoh before continuing onto Penang the following day.
Left KL on the 5:30pm bus from Puduraya Bus Station (crazy bus station)....had no idea where our bus would leave from so just followed everyone else and luckily got on ...
Kota Bharu, Perak, Malaysia elinebouckaert... we ended up paying 110R per night. We had an excellent diner at Downtown Cafe and Hotel, 41, Jalan Besar, 39000 TanahRata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang - tel: 05-491-3159. A delicious steamboat for three was 48 R. Definitely highly recommended.
We booked a full day tour with Kang Tours & travel (This company also provides transport from Taman Negara to ...
... fast down the ride, swaying from left to right. During one section of the ride, it goes left, then right, then left again straight away with a small dip; this is where it went wrong. Somehow, due to the extreme speed we were going, the fact we couldn't see where we were going, the 'rock and rolling', and the fact I was at the front of the tube, caused our tube to flip right over (the one time we weren't intending it to). It was pitch black so we had no idea what was happening ...
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia cereal42... Tetley tea folk at home. we had tea & scones overlooking the tea filled valleys before heading back when a nice employee gave us a lift half way - it would have been at least a 3 hour walk back otherwise! Lots of nice Indian food in the town as most tea workers are Indian. We spendt the evenings sat by the log fire until Mr Miserable kicked us out at 10pm with the words close 10pm.
Ringlet, Pahang, Malaysia france_rejean... apparent, and so we waited even longer as the driver tried to flag down a passing bus - a fruitless task on a fast moving motorway! Finally he decided to turn the bus around and take us back to the last town, Bidor, where we should be able to change buses - posing the question, if it was safe to drive 15 minutes back there, what was it stopping us going to KL? At Bidor we parked outside KFC and went inside to wait for this other bus to turn up. Yusra bought me a chicken ...
Tanah Rata, Malaysia becpowellEarly in the morning, got waken up by YF. We went to Kledang Hill, just 10 minutes away from YF's house. An easy walk tour up the slope, till the waterfall. Small but nice waterfall. After that, it was sleep time. Then got waken up by YF again (>_<), because she said LY was waiting already. and off we go~......... to 大树脚 (under the big tree) to eat laksa. Very nice laksa, and I would say the best meal during the Ipoh ...
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia alanchin85... throughout the year, but I swear it felt like about 5C at night!! Guess its just because we have been used to such hot temperatures. Still - it did look quite a lot like Scotland - very green, overcast and it rained a lot here too. We did have to break down and by cheapy rain ponchos to get us home one night. We are on a bus mission tomorrow I'm afraid - here to Kuala Lumpur, then to Kuantan, and then hopefully to Cherating.....sigh. Love to all, K & M
Tanah Rata, Malaysia twoelders... Goh and his family, along with most of Ipoh, are of Chinese decent and speak Cantonese (Goh actually speaks Hokien at home, Cantonese with other Chinese, English with me, and Malay with everyone else). That first night, I went out with Goh to meet up with some of his friends for some local "white coffee". It was good. I then explored a nearby market and was once again amazed at all the delicious foods I had never ...
