A mixture of many destinations!!!
My next trip is going to be in Cyprus - the Island I was born and brought up.
It will be a blog dedicated just to this island!
... National museum.
We then headed to Sparta, a sad simple town in the plains below some spectacular mountains. We stayed 6km away in Mystras where we had the town to ourselves and stayed in a nice newly renovated pension in the center of a quaint village. We hiked the valley and in the morning fully explored the ruins of the Byzantine village of Mystras in the hills above. It has the honor of being the longest surviving Byzantine village, lasting intact until the 1700's. The last emporer ...
The next morning, I took a bus to the town of Nafplio in the Peloponnese region, where I stayed for the next two nights. The bus drove by the Corinth Canal and through a number of small greek towns. Nafplio is a small town, located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, with adorable streets, restaurants, and an impressive fortress looming over it. I arrived in the evening, and booked a room in the only hotel that offered shared accomodation. As it turns ...
Peloponnese, Greece canadianjulieSo after my quick and eventful stay through Athens, it was time to hit the beaches and relax. My first stop was the island of Syros, part of the group of islands know as the Cyclades close to Athens coast. After a short ferry ride in which I talked with a nice Greece woman who now lives in Toranto and insisted on calling instanbul constantinople, I made my way to my pension I prebooked online. Unfortanetly, I thought the pension was in a ...
Dodecanese, Greece broncos... She mentioned many times how the Centre really tries to promote peace through the marathon. With thousands of marathons now, all over the world, I can see how different cultures coming together for 26.2 miles develop a shared bond. It's like the Olympics when the world seems to all get along for 2 weeks every 4 years. I was given directions the short distance to the official marathon start where the beginning of the 2004 ...
Marathon, Attica, Greece rnriggins... new found Brazilian friends - Paul and Rachel. We only realised that we have met each other before in Poros after a chat over food. A pack of seagulls sent us back to Athens...there were so many of them... the people on the ship just kept feeding them... it was a sight indeed!
Saronic Gulf Islands, Greece ikanbilis... deep below. Would have been an adventure indeed! We caught breathtaking view of the landscape! Somehow, having led an extremely urbanised life since birth, it was hard to believe the landscape before our eyes. Impressive! Awe-inspiring! It was in this souvenir shop that we were introduced to the various interesting inventions / discoveries / artistic masterpieces of Greece. I ...
Peloponnese, Greece ikanbilis... und der zentrale Inselteil ist grüm mit üppiger Vegetation und vielen endemischen Pflanzen. Der Südteil ist trocken und feslig und erinert stark an die Zykladen. STENI EVIAS, Greece evia... There is not much to see at Marathon but the implications of the battle resound to modern times as it allowed ancient Greek society to prosper and bloom in which democracy, philosophy, artistic techniques, as well as other advances in thought were experiented with and enacted.
Marathon, Greece sojournerWe took many photos of the boat at that stage, since there's not much to see or do in Kimi in mid-september, let's be honnest. A few are displayed here, among others you will appreciate the original 1964 life raft, one we're happy we didn't have to use ;-) (we were close twice though). Also, I remember we had a party that night and I still excpect your pictures, Tony ! No censorship accepted !
