      ... volunteers (there are now 4 of us) and they are all lovely girls. We have done so much with the boys in the short time we have been here...and the fundraised money has been put to such good use. Not only has it meant the boys had an amazing Christmas/ new year but i have managed to have big jobs at the school done (they had no working showers and only one working toilet but they're now all fixed), and some things were desperately in need of fixing at the rescue ...

      ... I read this book in between my transition from last volunteer work to the current one, in Kenya. I felt the message carried in the poem was and still is quite fitting to me and particularly the pursuit of your dreams, after all Moving around the world is the most accomplished and enriching experience which you cannot buy from a shop or read in a book: "One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls."

      ... to be a shoe shop owner, Kelvin wants to be an engineer and many others want to be pilots! It's great that they are so ambitious! I slept for most of the afternoon, the heat really takes it out of you!

      On Friday it was Irene's birthday, so we had blown balloons up, got her a nice card, I'd brought her chocolate and Verity made her a bracelet! Friday was a public holiday in Kenya as it was the end of Ramadan, so we didn't do ...

      ... Kenya to Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Their road transports are the African equivalent of the Australian road trains that carry cattle through the outback. They are huge, effective transports and highly damaging ones. Thus the Mombasa – Nairobi Road is constantly pounded by these leviathans and they are a prime causal factor in ghastly road-kills – human road-kills!
