Cap. 1 Un inesperado mensaje

Un día cualquiera en la oficina. Suena mi móvil y recibo un mensaje que dice "La selección para la beca en China ha sido resulta. Has sido seleccionado final, enhorabuena! Consulta tu mail". La respiración se me corto y volví a leer el mensaje. Era una noticia que esperaba desde hacía mucho tiempo con la misma ilusión que esperas la nota de selectividad, o la contratación a un puesto de trabajo que quieres. Y la verdad que me sent ...

Eh, Toro, Eh! The Running of the Bulls

... white with the typical panuelo tied around their neck, passed out sitting against the wall. Everywhere just smelled bad, the bathrooms in the bus station were disgusting, and a good 90% of the crowd was drunk. Charming.

We made our way to the street, where it looked like Armageddon had hit. People were sprawled out everywhere, there were empty bottles of any kind of consumable liquid with an alcoholic content, there was trash in the streets and the ...

Running of the Bulls Festival

... run behind a wall and the bull would slam into it. After about 5 minutes of him running around, they bring out 2 guys on horses and the horse has armor on him and a blindfold. The bull would slam into the horse and try to lift him up, then the guy on top would use his big spear and stab him a few times. It appeared they were aiming for the shoulder blade area to further weaken him. Then 3 of the 6 matadors would each get 2 small hand spear things ...

A rainy day

We'll remember this stage for the amount of mud we accumulated in our legs. It was an awkward day, at least this stage was pretty easy but the beginning (a huge climb with a lot of mud).

We founded the main refuge in Estella newly renovated, clean, with all the facilities... a nice place where we met people from Italy, Germany and New Zealand , we decided to cook together a huge tipical spanish omelet!!! We also took a walk around beatiful Estella despite of the pain in our legs!

Becoming reacquainted with family

... note, Pamplona is the capital of the Navarra region, in northern Spain - a region which borders the Pyrenees. Today's blog technically starts yesterday, at the hospital. It was my last day, but being Friday, I had to arrive at 8 am sharp due to a clinical case discussion meeting that occurs every Tuesday and Friday morning. Despite the lack of sleep, I was determined to leave packed and ready for the trip from the hospital, so I got up early to put the finishing touches on ...

The Journey Across the World

... to experience more of this beautiful country and this exciting once a year festival that people from all over the world have come to take part in. We walked down to a carnival and rode some rides there. The rides were a lot more intense than the ones at great america or at fairs in America. We ate churros and walked back home, and laid down for a good night's sleep. But sleeping in the same room as my mom, who snores, wasn't that great because I kept waking up and having to hit her on the foot.

PAMPLONA!! RUNNING OF THE BULLS

... the first row of a balcony, while the other half were somewhere down in the non-balcony? area. The bullfight was especially brutal...to an extent that I wasn't aware of. Each morning, at least 6 bulls run down the street (these are the one's that everyone runs from). The point of them running from point A to point B is so that at point B they can later be forced to participate in the bullfight; i.e. get slaughtered for our entertainment, not something I entirely agree with ...

Zaragoza - Pamplona

... it again!! We had one more day in Pamps just relaxing and sorting all our washing out and then said our goodbye to Querps, Hillsey, Spider and Pies and headed back to Barcelona to see zeke but he still wasn't fixed was still waiting for parts. More dramas while driving back, Cy snapped a fan belt and had to rig up a temporary one to get to zeke. He made it to Zeke alright and we camped on the street by the mechanic to get a new one in the morning.

The Other Running of the Bulls

... group hug and together walked to the starting mark. Bárbara and I looked at each other in amazement, were they really that intoxicated to not be aware that the bulls had run for the last time that year the previous morning? Our amazement turned to panic, were we that off the mark that we had found ourselves in the middle of the street and over a dozen beasts were going to stampede taking us with them?! We were 18 after all, none of the above would ...
