We made it just fine to our first stop in the town of Montalcino. Home of the Brunello di Montalcino red wines, it has a small Piazza del Popolo that was very quiet compared to other piazzas we have recently visited, and many, many wine stores. Another early start so that we were on the road ahead of the other travelling hordes. There are still a lot of tourist buses around, so the crowds are everywhere and the trick is to try to get ahead of them all each day.
