The Castle

Castel Pergine; molto bene or is that sehr gut - either or here as most of the guests were German speaking and the staff Italian. What a mix. We were blown away trying to address the languages. Verena (the hostess) spoke English, Italian and German so everyone could communicate eventually. The top floor of the castle was unoccupied and we suspect a little leaky; thankfully we were on the bottom floor however the third floor was the bees knees with the double beds that we think were actually d...

Trento/Pergine/Cavedine

Friday we arrived into Trento, Italy around noon. Our mission for these 2 days was to dig deeper into Mike's family history. We had our second case of bad weather for the trip-it was rainy and cloudy all day Friday in Trento. We went from scorching hot weather in Salzburg (unusual for this time of year) to cool and rainy weather in northern Italy. After walking around Trento a bit (in the rain), unsuccessfully attempting to find the family history research center and grabbing a quick lunch, w...

It starts.

Departed Dublin around 07:30, first stop Italy for the wedding. Arrived in Malcesine for lunch. Checked into hotel Alpino, a great little spot, right in the centre of the town, chilled for a while then caught up with friends who were already settled in. <br>Weather was a bit of a mixed bag, but we still had enough sunshine to make the most of our time. We got the ferry across Lake Garda to visit Limone for the amazing invisible market and ...

... come. He's staying longer than we are because he got ripped off by the Italian consolate. It's nice to have a new person with us. On monday we had a new teacher arrive and he is a food and beverage manager. We had to serve for a gala dinner. It was pretty nerve wracking since i've never served before, but i managed. There were only around 11 people at the dinner so it wasn't so hard. The next day was my favorite day here so far. We spent the day in the manager of ...

Saying goodbye :(

... english, told us she had a fantastic time with us and would see us soon. We gave her big teary eyed hugs and said goodbye. The next day was the worst of all. We woke up early to eat breakfast with Dominico and Sarah, Pino's son and his girlfriend. I got a knock on my door telling me to hurry up, Pino was outside saying a quick goodbye before he had to go to the airport. I was so relieved that i was going to get to say goodbye to the person i had grown ...

... will be leaving too, to go back to their main house in Milano. At 9 we headed out towards Venice and the airport. Since it was now dark we were unable to sightsee. I tried to nap but only closed eyes - one stop for coffee for GP and fuel-(14.08 liters at $20 euros) and arrived at the empty airport at midnight. Maria was reluctant to leave us there alone but we finally sent them off to spend the night at a nearby friends before heading to Milano tomorrow.

... hidden cache. Maria was excited! She started asking-Now, where is the next one!! Now we have to walk back down the hill, and this is a very well used very narrow bicycle path so have to keep looking behind and in front of us for cyclists, through town and back to our hotel. Maria left us in town to go to her home to prepare us dinner. We are tired- A long day and we walked a lot so both very tired. We are relaxing before we have to walk about ...

We have made it to Italy - and the sun is shining!

... over a pass to Italy. Since being in Italy we have found a really good cycle route that is a good surface and welled signed, except when land slides have crossed it's path. We are now in Trento and are hoping to be in Venice (our end destination) in 2 days time after passing through Verona. I hope that you all feel updated with our progress and we will tell you how the end goes when we get to Venice. Rachel and Kristin
