Fortress with a view... entry one felony!!

We arrived from Lucca just in time for a sublime sunset... it was like the sky was on fire!! See photos!!
I was a bit pooped so I opted to stay in the scoobs reading and relaxing while Kim headed into the village to scope it out.
Next morning started with a beautiful sunrise which was quickly replaced by some storm clouds. Fortunatly the storm passed over without parting with a drop of rain and we had sun again when we both headed ...

Market day in the Campo Square

... room in the afternoon and played cards on the terrace and drank the last of our beer. People were gathering under our terrace to take pictures and we had the terrace all to ourselves. This place has been so friendly and wonderful. Coletta and her sister E'letta have been such help. I think I spelled the names wrong and will check when I get home. We went back to the square to have another gigantic slice of ...

... the knee. Very, very chic and way out of Missouri league. Anyway, we will be here tomorrow and since we took pictures of almost anything worth seeing we will send what we have today and probably not have much tomorrrow. Oh, but tomorrow in Palio Campo square it is market day, aka flea market. All the tables were set up today so that will be interesting and we will be doing some wash. Talk to you all tomorrow and signing out for now......
Love Mick and Lisa

A Florentine Finale

... through that particular medium. In addition to sculpture, the City's architecture also reached back to try and capture the spirit and skill of the ancients. The Duomo was the first dome of its kind built in 1000 years, and Brunellechi studied Rome's Pantheon in preparation for his crowning achievement.

In addition to providing us with a great tour of the Uffizi, Rick Steves also put together a fantastic walking tour of the ...

Greve in Chianti

... s "gift"... I had not tried Limoncello yet so I was still excited and the cake he had given us was delicious, it was more like a torte, nice and light. We finished up and because we thought we needed to ask for the check - as in every other place we have eaten since we've been here - sat at the table for another 30min before the waiter told us we could pay at the counter if we were done. The wine tasting place was right where the host said it would be ...

Firenze

... train station and caught a bus to our hostel. I was glad the bus stop was close because my pack is very heavy and gives me a sore neck after about 15 mins. Dropped off the bags at the hostel (no lockup boxes unfortunately so valuables come with me) and bussed back into the centre of town. Florence has a lot of street markets with dodgy people (mostly Morroccons) that dissappear when the Carribinieri (police) walk down the street, then reappear when they are gone. One ...

I just want to sleep... but what about Florence?

... Once patched up, it was time to go so I headed downstairs with the rest of them and headed off on the next stage of our trip. First stop was the French perfumery. It was ok, but everyone was feeling was to queasy to fully appreciate it. By the end of our short tour it was just plain painful. The perfumes they had created really did smell lovely, but nothing jumped out at me, or rather jumped through the haze that was filling my head, so I ...

Off to Italy

We flew from Gatwick airport to Florence. When we arrived, we made the mistake of renting a car, in Florence, at night. After driving for half of an hour with no glimmer of hope that we would find the hotel before the sun rose, Brandon and I got in the front seat, me sitting on Brandon's lap, and between the two of us we navigated Dad to the Westin. My job was to read the street signs (not as easy as it sounds, because they are on the sides of the buildings and near impossible to see ...

Death Hike in the Cinque Terra

... hot and we decided to go thru a tunnel (for an addl. £5) instead of climbing these vertical steps up the side of a mountain! At the end of the tunnel we discovered that in order to get to town 4, we had to hike a vertical path (instead of the oh-so-useful steps...). I swear, this was a deer trail, straight up! I was dressed for a hot day of easy hiking - long skirt, cool lacy shirt, sandals. NOT good ...
