... live for fútboll here? So, people are screaming, cheering and hanging out of cars. All dressed in the blue and red jerseys. Flags hang on top of cars and in every window. I had to ask the taxi driver if they already won, but he just laughed as he maneuvered the insane traffic jam, "no no, el match the fútboll es esta noche". I assumed he really wanted to be anywhere else watching the game than driving some "gringa" to the city center as he steps on the gas and makes some seemingly ...
Asuncion, Paraguay swedishvagabond... fecking titanic on the telly instead.

The group meal numbers were seriously depleting by now but being the non rebel that I am (I think I spent myself in the period 1985-88) I went off to dinner in some Sol restaurant place, it was a wee bit posh but I fear we disturbed the peace of the other diners, taking photos of each others eyes with much unnecessary hilarity. A few of us ended up in a local bar for a wee drink after and the chat turned to the amount of ...
Asuncion, Paraguay ramblingroisinTotal travel time was 36 hours, but we made it! God was watching out for us because we literally had a perfect trip. We had no problems with any of the layovers and getting through immigration and customs in Paraguay was easy; and all of our checked luggage made it with no problems!

Ray and Cindy, along with their four kids, Nathan, Taylor, Alyse and Kaylee ...
Asuncion, Paraguay midway... but it was a special feeling to be there at that moment. I did not see any other tourist and I was a bit affraid to make too many pictures as a camara is kind of a nice wanna-have for some people here. I was told to watch out for the piranhas, groups of little kids that attack you at the same time. In the night I went out with Shirely. we visited some pubs in the centre, before we took a bus to another location. Here it became very clear ...
Asuncion, Paraguay hansjew... back to the hotel for a siesta and dinner.

The next day was more successful by orders of magnitude. To make up for lost time we decided the best option would be to carry out the walking tour, which Lonely Planet so helpfully laid out for us. Asunción is only a very small city and within 2 hours we had seen all of the main sites, spent a great deal of time in the sun and really got to know the capital. There is no escaping the poverty here. As we went into a ...
Asuncion, Paraguay danm1986... who come in from other areas, and people generally notice when any unrecognized vehicle or person comes into the area. It's a very close knit community, and I feel incredibly safe, safer than I would in DC. That said, there has have been a lot of cattle thefts in the last few months in our area as well, as people from a neighboring village have supposedly been coming and robbing at night. We have not lost any animals since I've been here. I met two ...
Guarambare, Paraguay chriswooley... 10PM local time I ventured out the next morning in the 105 degree temperatures to see the city of Asuncion. While the city is spread out the historical area was quite easily covered in a few hours. I made my usual rounds of visiting the historical buildings, main cathedral, and historical museum (nicely air conditioned to provide relief from the heat). I was able to pick up a Guarani mask at the street market to hang on my wall with the others ...
Asuncion, Paraguay phileus_fogg... do our walking tour of the city to find the protesters were walking the same way. Managed to get around them and see what we needed to see (there´s not much to see to be honest). The Casa de la Independencia was worth the visit, a beautiful little museum that is housed in the building where the country´s independence from the Spaniards was plotted. Including the museum and the handful of other buildings there are to see, we finished the ...
Asuncion, Paraguay robandjoan... but it won't be the same. Allthough I'm excited about receiving the coordinator position, it also means I will be leaving my community often during the next 3 months to help with training the next group (our replacement group) of PCVs. It will be important for me to get to know them since I will be their main support go-to person next year. I'm excited for the last few months, allthough leaving will be bittersweet. I hope this finds everyone well!
Asuncion, Paraguay carrrrinWow!
