... at some point and make it all the way to the peak.

When we got down we stopped at the Irish Famine Memorial which was really interesting. It is a large metal ship, but its covered with skeletons in memory of all the people who died on "the coffin ships" when they were emigrating out of Ireland. It was a pretty moving sight and I am glad that we stopped there....

Alot of these pictures have the same title, but they are different
Murrisk, County Mayo, Ireland tjjoyce... a thatched cottage where bread is baked in a pot on the fire--but found it was closed. Our second choice had no one home, so we ended up next door at Cala ‘nUisce. We were shown to our room which was basic, but clean. The bathroom was incredibly small, so we decided to spend just one night rather than the two we had planned.

We drove out to the ferry port in Rossaveal and bought our tickets to Inis Mor island ...
Spiddal, Western Ireland, Ireland rovingwerners... degrees. Pretty to look at but not too fun to swim in.
The "Man of Aran" B&B was so quaint. It was built in 1930 for a documentary film by that name. It was about the independent people of the island and how they carved a life for themselves there. The main building looks like the old thatched roof cottages that were common at the time. The vista from every room was spectacular. It is beautifully kept and the hosts are a delight. They were ...
Inishmore, Western Ireland, Ireland dsmccOk so we drove about two hours in the pouring rain to get to Ashford Castle. The roads were narrow and lined with stone walls. Quite a harrowing ride. We gasped at all the cars coming towards us at top speed. I kept thinking they were in our lane. We stopped in a little village for a break and to have a pint of Guinness. We tucked into a little place that was so quaint and old world. The little old lady behind the bar was ...

Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland stellastot... but it was worth getting up early for. After that I went and looked in the shops - especially the tourist ones - which are filled with green things like lepracons, shamrocks and sheep oddly enough. Picked up the car, which wasn't hard and drove to cashel. Getting out of Dublin wasn't as hard as I thought. The stressful bit was getting to Cashel and finding that my ...
Cashel, Ireland kerosena... the far side of the hill. After taking a few photos we started back towards the van as it had started to rain. By the time we got there, it had become so hot that Gavin decided he needed to change into his shorts! The weather was mixed when we arrived and continued along the same vein all the time we were there, with light to moderate showers interupted by glorious sunshine. No-one seemed to know what to wear, not even the locals. Our plan to outwait the travel ...
Cashel, Ireland gavin.porterThe Rock of Cashel was a stop as we made our way to our next hotel on the west side of Ireland. Boy.... did THAT sound gangtsa.... ;) Anyway... The Rock fo Cashel is not a rock at all, but a castle. Here are some pictures we took.
Cashel, Ireland pogiest... by coach-loads of old people in the adjacent visitor centre. Just what is it with old people these days? Back when I was young they were seen and not heard, always polite to their juniors and never much in a hurry to get anywhere. Now they were noisy, boisterous and pushed me out of the way with elbows or handbags when, heaven forbid, I stood in the way of that must-have leprechaun tea towel or pretty picture ...
Westport, Western Ireland, Ireland troywilkinson... the name of the town not the route number in which we are headed. What happened to that 4-lane highway N16? It's suddenly turned into a lane and a half, with a curb right up against my tire! Thank God we live in the country with narrow roads or we would have been hyper ventilating when the huge truck came roaring past us. First lesson - speed limits are non-existent. The only speed is FAST or Faster. Second lesson there are tractors and farm vehicles driving in ...
