After discovering that restaurant number three was closed, it was back to the "tasca" cafe where after some waiting, and Marcela's intervention, we were seated but told that it would be a long wait and "we might get bored" because they had to serve another table of 12 newly arrived patrons--German tourists, it turned out, and there's more to their story below.

... even though the castle itself is better described as a castle ruin. Though most of its past grandeur as a castle is lost to the ages, grand walls, towers and turrets still stand, helping define Tavira's skyline, and providing a most senic tableau for a formal garden, where soldiers once lived and prepared for battle.

It was interesting to find geraniums growing everywhere, mostly cultivated ones, but some seemed wild, as well. We found jade plants in people’s gardens, a bird bath, and bird houses, as well. One home built a green barrier around a newly planted avocado plant to protect it from the sun, we guessed. That same home had a big enclosed patch of strawberry plants.

... moon over the sea. Then, on to Santa Luzia, a city known for its octopus, to a restaurant known for its octopus. Curt had delicious beans and octopus, along with a great Portuguese wine, a typical Mediterranean Diet dinner. Dianne also had an octopus dish with her wine, but Gibran had fish while Marcela, a vegetarian, had a very nice plate of vegetables.
