Seeing Casablanca

... in the impressive and elegant district of Anfa and Corniche, with a spectacular seaside view right from the Boulverd itself. And not to mention the great and faron-like mosque of Hassan the Second that it is an important travel point in Casablanca. The interior can be visited and it has an opening ceiling in order to allow muslims pray to the stars. Quite original.

As for Marrakech, the riad where we stayed was really great.  Imagine a tiny alley way, dirty, poor, in the center of the old city.  Then you open these 8 ft doors to an oasis.  The 26 of us had the whole place, complete with restaurant, pool (with a bar), several lounging rooms with wi-fi, a beautiful courtyard and great rooms.  We even had daily rose petals placed on our beds.  Linens were really nice, shower was nice, it was just a really nice place.  We ...

... an idiot here because I swear I'm the only person in this country who can't speak three languages, nevermind two. It's making it a little hard to get around, but I'll manage. I wandered the medina streets alone last night, even though the guidebook did not recommend that. I met a guy name Wissa, also known at Geno, the self proclaimed "king of the medina". I figured he was just ...

DRAMA OF THE SEAS BEFORE MOROCCO!

So, we left Cadiz and headed to Gibraltar to refuel. However, the weather was apparently too rough for refueling as scheduled so we got stuck floating next to the giant rock of Gibraltar for another day. I count it as being there with how long I stared at it out of my window. The downfall of that is that we were supposed to be in Morocco for 4 days and instead, we only had three. The waters were so rough when we got outside of Morocco. We also had to turn off the ...

Day 2: First glimpse of Morocco, hence Africa

... plenty of European & American companies. We stopped at a safety hotel to check the rates just in case my email to Hotel Maamoura was never received, and were pleased to find there was plenty of room at a reasonable rate. Thankfully for our extremely weary selves, our reception at Hotel Maamoura (Rated #1 in Casablanca by Tripadvisor) was warm, and they indeed had our reservation for 3. We checked out the room and were satisfied with the 3 beds ...

Magical Morocco

... cream, oil for dipping bread etc ended up buying a small bottle, but I don't think it gave the commission he was hoping for....it turned out that he also enticed 4 other girls on the trip to visit this shop to....(he must have been everywhere in that market!) We headed back to the hotel to eat our first of many tagines, washed down with local Casablanca beer. The following morning it was blue skies and sun, and we caught a taxi out to the Ain Diab Corniche overlooking ...

... from other mosques I have seen, and is the second largest after the one in Mecca. Inside holds 25000 people while the square outside can accommodate a further 80000. Casablanca lies on the coast, and the Mosque is built partly over the water, a wonderful setting for it. There is a large accompanying library, still in its final stages of construction, for people to come and learn more about the religion of Islam.

Well 'they' have gone and done it 'they' have. They have done what they always can't help themselves to do. And, they didnt consult me. Me, whom has shared in the cultural and historical legacy of it......someone who has lived and breathed and tasted it.....and thereby has an attachment to it in much the same way that someone who has lived in London is always a Londoner....or someone who has lived in New York is always a New Yorker. I feel rather like the father of young ...
