... at an open section of river and he spent about 30mins looking at and investigating the rocks! We found one with incredible green streaks through it. We wanted to try some Slovenian cuisine so went for dinner at a cute little place called Strud'l. We had a huge feast of local specialities. It was delicious! We also tried their homemade tea and a crepe for dessert. So full! Very enjoyable ...

Clear blue skies and very cold! We got ready to ride then drove to find somewhere to park for the day. Not an easy task in a touristy town like this! Anyway, we found a spot about 5km away in Bohinjska Bela, en route to lake Bohinj. We took Mats "short cut", aka wet, gravel, muddy, soggy autumn leaves, steep gradient.. For about 20km through the Slovenian national park with no map then realising we were going in a circle ...

was still a marvelous day, and Triglav National Park is one of the few places
on my travels in the Balkans that I’ve thought, “I really want to come back
here again someday!” That might be for trekking or it might be for skiing. I’m
not sure, but northwestern Slovenia is my kind of ideal mountain environment!

... there is no road and therefore no traffic and more peaceful. It was the most stunning place I can remember visiting, in spite of the less than perfect weather. Utterly amazing in fact. We had another lovely meal in the hotel and the service was excellent. The waiter (who I suspect is the owner) remembered us, our room number, the drinks we like etc and that made all the ...

... value hotel I have ever stayed at and we will return.

We made a decision pretty quickly to abandon the high passes we had planned for today. Not because of the mysterious technical issues at high altitude but because of the significant risk of snow on the planned route! We decided instead to head to Cortina, fuel up then head south away from the mountains, via Udine and then over the Slovenian border. The ride ...
