Jamaica, no problem!

... too! We also visited Walter Fletcher beach which is a little bigger and a couple of the other local beaches.

For the whole week the weather played its part except for the daily thunderstorms at around 3pm. One badly timed walk saw us getting soaked but other than that it was hot hot hot beach weather every day.

Another great bar was Margaritaville which had their own waterslide into the sea! It was great for sundowners although the ...

... way the water is perfectly safe to drink in Jamaica. In fact I highly recommend that you drink plenty of it. Most people that get sick on vacation, do so from a number of other reasons, most having a lot to do with over consumption and lack of water. Take your time, let your body get accustomed to a new environment and different foods. Go easy on the rum, and drink plenty of water.

The explosion of multi-cell life as we know it occurred only some seven hundred million years ago. Bacteria have been around at least three billion, ever since Earth cooled down below the boiling point. The amazing thing is not that life occurred; it's that ...

... traveling, to actually put down roots in a place for a while. For me traveling is not merely an end in itself; it's the background against which my life happens. It would've been nice to tour the island, but taxis in Jamaica are not cheap, with prices that would make a New York cabbie blush. How about $10 for the five-minute ride from the airport into town? Or $100 for the one hour ride to Negril? Prices might be negotiable as long as ...

None of the dozen or so shops sells exactly the same thing. That's by design, I'm sure. Suddenly, we hear hear music. "Where's that coming from?" I ask. We follow the smooth jazz sounds clear across the grounds near the lobby and come upon a 3-piece jazz ensemble that could easily rival the group, Pieces of a Dream. We ...

... our ride couldn't get anywhere near the gates since traffic going in was so bad. We decided to jump out and walk the rest of the way. I'm skipping forward to describe the scene inside the Sumfest venue. It was an outdoor concert and it was already packed inside so we didn't end up being very close to the stage. But I could spot who all the artists were and the music was loud and clear! Around the perimeter of the grassy area for spectators were several ...

... live musicians created the atmosphere just the way you'd have wanted it to be. All in all, it was a far cry from skiing down a mountain, but then again, winter sun never goes amiss, and as I left the place armed with a souvenir T-shirt, a whole bunch of photos and terrific memories, it comes as no surprise as to why I began to consider a healthy travel schedule to be something as worryingly vital as breathing in air.
