I went to Santa Maria Di Giglio to see the Rubens and Tintoretto paintings. Most people seem to come to the door and walk away when the have to pay a few euros to enter. What a mistake that is! You are so close to them and no one else around. Looking up at the ceiling is startling as there are lots of faces staring back down at you! My photos aren't great so I've sourced them ...

Another unbelievable day. Reflecting on it all and it seems like a dream. Heading away from Ljubljana we came to Postojnska, where there are world famous caves. Not enjoying enclosed spaces, I was dubious about this trip but 90 minutes later was so grateful I had changed my mind and gone on this excursion. ... Definitely take a day trip to the glass blowing artists in Murano, wander this island in the sunshine and check out the beautiful glass artworks. You can watch a local artisan blow a tiny glass dragon or watch huge chunks of molten glass slowly become a chariot a metre long. Take time to undertake a historical tour and learn the amazing history of this ...

... the water traffic. What a lovely way to close up our visit to Venice.

Once we got our bags we caught the Alilaguna waterbus to the airport where we had dinner and caught our plane to Frankfurt where we would spend the night. Our trip comes to a end except for a few miscellaneous reflections on Venice as we head home:

    • Marge and I were both surprised by the traffic on the canals. It was really quite amazing for us to see all the movements of boats. ...
