It was lovely having Kaye stay with me for a few days. I picked her up at the Nice train station on the Monday evening. She had been on a cycling holiday with her brother and sisters and so was already in Europe. The train from Brussels was late. Surprise, surprise!!! Unfortunately I had to work the next two days but Kaye was happy resting her foot. She had been told she had tendonitis and it was quite swollen and giving her quite a bit of pain. ... Everyone walked away happy.

We then caught the ferry that we thought was going to Managgio which is on the opposite side of the lake, but it went back to Bellagio so it was an opportunity for me to change out of my wet shirt and get a jacket, of course this was also the signal required for the rain to stop and the sun to come out. ... leaving and we are on the wrong side of the tracks, next train in 90 minutes. Can you call a taxi - yes, but it is a busy time in Bellamo and it will be a 90 minute wait (there is only one taxi in Bellamo). Can we catch a ferry or hire a boat, maybe but it is a 500 metre walk to the ferry station. So armed with a map and a couple of directions we set off and soon find the only ferry for the day which leaves in 5 minutes, what great timing. The ...

... he can’t help with the trains, but says he can give me a great book to read on the journey.

We finally find our train, and rattle off to Varenna without much further ado, well if you don’t count that little incident with the conductor and our non-validated tickets. At last we’re here. Surprisingly, it’s hot again. We wonder why there are two taxis outside the station when the town only ...
