Day 1: I get moving early and go across to the little cafe in the square for the BnB provided breakfast of tea or coffee and a croissant. They have free wifi which works. Yes! The BnB wifi is useless! After breakfast I head off to the boat pier and get a day ticket for the Middle lakes area. 15 euro and can be used to get to Villa Carlotta, Bellagio, Menaggio and back to Varenna. It's beautiful on the ...

I'm on the move again today. Metro to Termini train station and fast train to Milan at 11am. Takes 3 hours. Speeds of around 248 kms an hour. My ears keep popping when we go through the tunnels. The terrain is very similar to down south. Rolling hills etc., with flat plains in between. I can't see so many olive trees though and there's a lot more grape vines. It still all looks very beautiful. Can't say for sure but the soil looks a lot more sandier than ...

Tuesday is that day that Bar Sport is closed, so we weren't able to have our obligatory coffee there. Instead we made our way to the ferry terminal and headed for the village of Menaggio (that's MENAGGIO, MENAGGIO for Paul). We wandered throughout the lakeside park and town square for a few hours before jumping on the ferry again and headed for Varenna.

Unfortunately most of the lunch places along the lake were closed still and so we found a ...

... opportunity before jumping back into the car.
We were now heading for Italy and craving for the great coffee at Cafe Sport. The GPS directed us to Varenna and the car ferry. We were hoping like mad that the ferries were in operation. Phew, we only had to wait 20 minutes and a 10 minute ferry trip later we were in Bellagio.
We found our accommodation at Bellagio apartments and meet our host Giulio who was so lovely. He runs a small bar and restaurant close by and as ...

... and some limoncello. Once back at waters edge we bumped into Edwina and Peter again and stopped to chat. They are a lovely couple, very easy to chat to. A Bellini and a Gin Fizz later and we were feeling very relaxed with the world! Hopped back on ferry to travel to Mennagio which was pretty but a lot quieter than Bellagio. Back on ferry again (only about 10 mins each time) to visit Varenna. Shared a pizza and beer before heading back home on ...
