      Puerto Plata is the main city on the D.R.'s north coast and was named by Christopher Columbus when he explored the area in 1493. The harbor is guarded by Fortaleza San Felipe, one of the oldest forts in the New World. Some parts of the town are a little ramshackle but in other areas Victorian houses have been nicely renovated so the center part of town including the Parque Central and cathedral are pleasant to stroll through.

      ... gifts for free which was awesome. Definitely worth the 15 minutes of attention they asked from us. We were too timid to leave the resort, minus the excursions we signed up for. We went on boat ride out to Paradise island and snorkelled with the Monkey fish, a very fond memory!! (IF you don't have an underwater camera, spend the $5 to buy one, wish I had!!).       ... just acting like big kids jajaja..We were living like Kings and Queens, we stayed in the penthouse of the hotel. It was great, there was warm water the whole time you took a shower, a TV and actual beds, a big living room, balcony and swimming poooool! it was great! So a very relaxing weekend. We bOogie boarded and swam a lot. (: good times. I haven't really got to much to say...although Im very tired right now from this weekend! But it was good and refreshing.
