We arrived from Lucca just in time for a sublime sunset... it was like the sky was on fire!! See photos!!
I was a bit pooped so I opted to stay in the scoobs reading and relaxing while Kim headed into the village to scope it out.
Next morning started with a beautiful sunrise which was quickly replaced by some storm clouds. Fortunatly the storm passed over without parting with a drop of rain and we had sun again when we both headed ...
Volterra, Tuscany, Italy darrenhough74Hello everyone,
We had such fun today!! The square had it's first ever market day or flea market. It was filled with cheeses which by the way Percino was our favorite and the fresh sliced procuitto was unbelievable. We just walked around all day. The first part of the day we did two loads of wash and dry which cost $18 us dollars. Then we had wine free and paid and had a great time. We then came back to ...
Siena, Tuscany, Italy lucy1279... him questions about taking pictures without flash. He said we could not and then started rewinding the tape to see what we were doing in the church. We left quickly. We then went to a meat market that was named in Rick Steve's book that has the original owners and is suppose to be really good. We went in and they had cheese on the top of the counter like Schnucks and stuff when they are giving samples so I reached for a piece and it was a womans in ...

Siena, Tuscany, Italy lucy1279... Either way, they were very steep steps.

When I got to the top, the view of Sienna was amazing. I could see the whole city below me, with red brick buildings and red tile roofs. We were only allowed to stay at the top for 15 minutes so I stayed as long as I could before going back down. Then I walked back to the bus stop and caught the bus back to Florence.

After I got back to Florence I went out to dinner with two girls that I met at ...
Siena, Tuscany, Italy zolina... really great guides and the weather was BEAUTIFUL! It was a good trip (LOTS of walking). We saw the head of St. Catherine of Sienna, which is still intact. It was amazing to see something like that first hand. Its a little eerie but awe-inspiring at the same time. We were able to tour the entire city in one day. Siena makes Florence feel HUGE. Florence is loud, contantly bustling and moving, while Siena is very ...
Siena, Tuscany, Italy clione... lady who did embroidery and was amazed at her craftsmanship. (Many students also bought Balsamic and Olive oil from here.) The walk up to town is spectacular. The views are just outstanding. The stereotypical picture of what Tuscany is was amazing. The scenery beautiful - I can't even describe how impressive it was. It was everything we could have imagined and more. Most important part - San Gimignano had the best Gelato ...
Siena, Tuscany, Italy craigmorris... with local shopkeepers. I have made a concerted effort to learn the menu translations - afterall food is important when on holidays. Driving in Italy should be classified as an extreme sport. The girl who made our coffee in Rome warned us about driving in Naples. She advised that Italians inherit a sixth sense on the road and know when someone is turning or pulling out - apparently they don't see the need for blinkers. Or for ...
Siena, Italy kbsp... She, herself, is a member of the Shell Contrada...but admitted that everyone wished the Owls would finally win (their losing streak goes back to 1979)just so that they'd quit complaining! After the movie, we were on our own for lunch. We had a delicious sandwich and birra nazionale for lunch...then rejoined Stephanie for another walk around the city. She took us to the Roman Gates and, eventually, to St. Catherine's ...
