Mmm cafe

... Sunny Delight, cafe and cup of fruit.
Landing in Santiago did not appear to be anything. I could not see a town or much. Not many trees. Mountains though.
So, Santiago was where we needed to leave and get my bags, but upon going through customs, we were told we have to pay the reciprocity fee of $131 dollars each just to go get my bag and take a flight. I was defeated but Nick was ...

Mah...

Riding the Bandito busline to Cabo San Lucas

the internet connection here is flaky at best. who knows if I'll even be able to post this today.. yesterday was a bust! Anyway... Yesterday (12/30) Gina and I decided to catch the bus for the 20 mile trip into Cabo San Lucas, the fabled party town of Baja. As instructed we braved the main road running across four lanes of traffic to a concrete overhang where other "seasoned" tourists had gathered to await the blue/green regional bus that showed up every ...

... speakers so its pretty hard to ignore, let alone sleep. Apparently if you press all the buttons above you randomly not only does it not mute the sound, a red light comes on (which stayed on for the entire trip as I couldn't turn it off, despite further button mashing) and people look at you funny. As you can guess the audio is in Spanish too, so even when it's a half decent film like Spiderman or something you have these appalling dubs. More of this forced ...

Mexico City

... the past. We would never have known what lay inside and would probably not felt we could just walk into many of them. Mexico City has the third largest square (after Tiananman Square and Red Square) surrounded by a beautiful cathedral and palaces and government buildings - the only problem is that the city is built on what used to be a lake and many of the buildings are subsiding badly. The evidence is quite easy to see and in the cathedral there is a huge ...

Last Day

... ever have dreamed of! Not only were there several tents housing souvenir vendors, but there was also a perfomance on the main stage! We were so lucky! And it didn't cost a dime! There were these 2 kids staging a fight on the main platform while people beated on drums in the background. They were all dressed authentically in ancient Aztec attire. I love culture!! I think I have said this SEVERAL times before. :) It is just so refreshing to know that we can still celebrate ...

The Long Road to Los Cabos

... gt;

It's Christmas Eve and there aren't many cabs running in Cabo San Lucas. After 27 hours on the bus, we've arrived at the end of the road, the southern-most tip of Baja, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific.

San Lucas is deceptively quiet as we cruise through in what tonight might be the only taxi in town. Amanda's flawless Spanish gets us to a cheap hotel in the centre of town, and we find the only taco stand and bar open, a ...

... can search for a charm of the star of David and also for a gold watch. A few things capture his attention, but he doesn't make a decision right away. Gotta use the restroom, so we stop at the Hard Rock Café and have to buy drinks just to go pee. Spend about 15 minutes there then head back out to the streets.

We stumble across a beautiful new shopping mall still under construction, but with beautiful ...
