... That was when we had the guys leaning out of their car trying to get our attention. We found a tiny beach!! It was packed full of locals and the water was full of bread for some reason, but it was a white sanded, aquamarine watered beach! Unfortunately, just as we found a shady spot and we starting to undress we were ambushed by an 18 year old boy who thought he might try and chat us up. We decided to go in one at a time so ...

... to Punta Gorda where the homes are a little newer to find a nicer place than the one I am staying at here but that plan changed when Michael showed up. He is having a bit of bad luck with his Nikon that stopped working, his girlfriend getting sick, and his rear hub needing repair. That is not to mention that he had his bike stolen while sleeping in the tent in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately the police recovered it but they had to spend a whole day at the ...

... that moment. Will we ever see each other again? No, but I know I'll never forget him, nor he me. Will I change the world with actions similar to the one I just described? Maybe not, but I know I changed his world, and mine. As I travel and meet people who are less fortunate than myself, or with limited opportunities, and if I take their photograph, I print it out on the spot and I give them a "moment" that they can "hold" on to. In a few months I ...

... cheeses, savouries and cakes. We were going out to look for a tour agency but there is a desk in the hotel lobby and a large selection of tours are shown to us. We opt for a city walking tour that afternoon and go out for a walk round the area. All the buildings are in bad repair, there are frequent flows of water in the streets (some from broken sewers and some from water thrown 'overboard' from the balconies above), most of the cars or motorcycles emit large amounts of ...

... of the language. The music was very loud and so everything was shouted but we kept drinking the libres (Marylee was drinking mojitos - rum, crushed mint and mixer) so that was all right. Astrid began to look a little worse for wear so I thought I had better walk her back to her hotel 1230-1ish? There were drank some water in the bar and I ended up listening for an hour or so about the troubles with her boyfriend (should she stay with him or shouldn ...

... story...trying to get the bus out of Havana to go to Cienfuegos we were told that it was sold out, which was fine. A taxi would be arranged to bring us and two German lads there for the same price....interesting. Since the price was the same we didn't care and the taxi would be about an hour faster but why did the the lad from the bus station receive some money from the driver just as we were ready to leave? Yeah.....you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

... about their country and their views on life in general. The one thing I can comment on is that they are all generally very proud of their country and regardless of the problems they face on a daily basis, they are proud to be Cubans. The one other thing I felt was that they generally love to be able to travel purely because they want to experience and see the outside world but they would generally, not all, come back to Cuba. But traveling for these people is almost ...

... already fallen victim to other vehicles.

Cienfuegos was bustling and its expansive central square, yet another landmark named for José Martí (a late nineteenth century figurehead of the fight for Cuban independence from Spain), was lined with the most ornate and best maintained civic buildings we had seen. I also saw my pick of the finest vintage cars, and would dearly have loved to have swapped our wheels for a rather ...

The mystery of "only two women in the house"

... door for us. We were confused and got scared that if we stayed here for another day, the number of people would increase drastically... The next morning the revelation came - Mirta was talking of the number of people in the house during the day!!! Although even that was not completely true, because they had visitors all the time. But that's just how it is here - you always meet new people in houses where you stay, usually members of one big happy family....
