Friday 28th March. The ride to Havanna was surprisingly swift in a car with 3 other women and a driver. Very reliably I was collected at 10am and with broken Spanish chatted to the ladies in the car all Cubans. Seems this is an alternative way to get rides other than pay bus fares. For me it was the same cost as the bus but a door to door service. For the ladies naturally they paid at least a lot less by what I saw. ...

... Soviet era because they are solid concrete blocks. It is great that they have painted them in bright colours.

We have never seen such an empty highway and with so little traffic. Because the lanes have no cars, they are used by people riding bikes, horses, people hitchhiking, selling beans, cheese and other things that we can't identify.
