... the uneducated Scott or I did.
Regardless we all enjoyed the palace very much, despite the rain and cold. Before we left the palace Mom made sure to snap a picture of the 4 of us wearing her famous "turkey hats" so we could at least feel some semblance of Thanksgiving here in Spain. We spent the later afternoon walking around the King's gardens outside the Alhambra and then headed back to the hotel so that Mom and Torrey could take another nap before dinner ...
... the pond. The American author, Washington Irving, explored the palace in the 1800s (after it had fallen into disrepair) and stirred up interest about it with his Tales of the Alhambra. It is a truly magical place.
It's hard to list highlights – every room had details and stories about which many books have been written. Some views that stuck with us, though, include:
... is typically Moorish; ornate archways, mosaicry, marble by the bucket load and water features everywhere. An absolutely enchanting and dramatic structure overlooking Granada. We spent the best part of the day there, and very much appreciated Amanda and Gavin´s jovial company (thanks guys). Following the Alhambra, we headed down into the old town and commenced a night of beers, accompanied by free tapas. Each round consisted of a beer with a ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain lymandannabelle... pebbles and rocks of the sidewalk. We bought out tickets early Sunday morning and went right to the Alcazaba to start off – There weren´t very many people there that hour so we were able to each go on different towers of the castle about 50 feet apart and be alone on each one which made for some pretty cool photos with the city of Granada in the background. We then went to Palacíos de Nazaríes… ufff, impressive. This place was fabulous. No ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands juliannamargare... gorgeous! That afternoon we had lunch at an Indian restaurant (my favorite type of food). I had chicken Tikki Masala (favorite dish). Then, we were off to Malaga! The bus rise was only about 1.5 hours so not bad at all. After checking into our hotel, we walked around town and met up with Charlie's friend who's studying there and some of her friends for dinner. Rose and Charlie are both vegetarians and have very limited choices when it comes to food in ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands mjenespana... said goodbye, and i went on my way, trekking around in search for either accom or Internet.. When all else failed and i couldn't find any suitable accom, i resorted to calling Angela. She negotiated with the reception at her guest house and within the quarter hour i was at their door with a bed and somewhere nice to stay :-) It had always been my intention to climb into the mountains surrounding Grenada and spend some time getting back to nature and pushing my ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands pat_dorsey... it existed and even the boys who are not culture vultures thought it was great. Even the 40 degrees and mild cases of heat stroke could not dampen our enthusiasm for Alhambra. After that we headed high into the Sierra Nevada mountains to go home and hoped to find an authentic Spanish restaurant for dinner but no luck and had to wait till we got back to Almerimar at 11pm where we ending up having a Chinese buffet. Go figure !
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands bellavita... Americas centuries ago. I suppose the Spanish aren't religious enough to do that anymore. The most exciting thing about the hotel, besides finding it, was the availability of the internet. After about 20 minutes of waiting for the network key, being dropped from the wifi, and getting a hold of a cord to plug directly into the wall, I was connected and talking to Erik and mom. Aside from dinner, I was talking online for the duration of the ...
Granada, Spain kwirky250I woke up, took a shower, and got ready to leave. The man in the hotel was really nice because, as I was walking out the door, he asked me where my next destination was. I told him Granada and he looked up the bus station I needed to go to, as well as the metro stop. I thanked him, handed over the key, and headed out. I was at the bus station by 9, but the next bus wasn't until 10:30. So, I had plenty of time to wander ...
Granada, Spain fminonne... hotel, through the centre of town, past the cathedral, to the hospital, then back. When I returned, Ann and Eduardo were just finishing. Ann and I , then, headed out for the Alhambra. We walked – slowly since Ann is preggers and it’s all uphill. The line for the Alhambra was incredibly long, so we decided to bail. Took a waterway down, to come out by the river. Then to the town centre for a leisurely, inexpensive lunch. Home via the shopping district ...
