... yes, they are everywhere, we need to get more of our countryfolk out!). Bistro Anna is a fancy little restaurant where I order the trout which is delivered sans nothing, and enjoy eating bits of fin and gill along with strange vegetables. Whatever, the point of this dinner is that I get introduced to the group with who I spend the rest of my trip - Magnus (the Norwegian), John, Patrick, Mike and Felicity (The Brits), and Jason (the other American).
Finishing up dinner about 1 ...
Mendoza, Argentina mikey_james... along a two lane paved road, that didn´t seem so paved due to the amount dust that we inhaled in our 20 km journey... The next stop was for lunch at a very quiet bodega (winery) and the tasting was quite enjoyable. We never knew cabernet savignon to be so smooth and clean. Our last stop was at Familia di Thomaso, what another wonderful gem that was uniquely tucked behind the Andes. This was a quiet family winery with a great tour and selection.

After the joyous ...
Mendoza, Argentina leahrobHaving sampled the first of many Argentine wines in Salta, we decided to go to the country’s wine heartland and make our next stop Mendoza. Vineyards were our top priority, however, a close second would be to organise a few days skiing in Portillo, Chile (which is on the road from Mendoza to Santiago). We had arrived to rain in Mendoza and were apprehensive about spending the following day riding around the countryside.
To see off the rain we spent the ...
Mendoza, Argentina katandsuren... seemingly in the middle of nowhere. We arrived finally in Santiago about 9pm and had just missed the last bus to the airport so were forced to take taxi there. Arriving at the airport around 10p we were faced with a 6 hour wait till check in at 4am. So we found some seats and along with a few other souls with the same idea curled up and tried to sleep in the blazing light. Meanwhile Wayne hit the jackpot and found a free wifi zone and spent the time on the computer.
Mendoza, Argentina kasnsqueak... scenic in the world. Descending on the Argentine side, we reached the large beautiful city of Mendoza. A city full of parks and wide streets, it is great to wonder around. Mendoza was the site of a large earthquake many years ago, and when rebuilt, they planned wide streets for rubble to pile and many parks for evacuation points in case an earthquake occurs again.
Mendoza, Argentina brockandlisa... everyone else was able to leave. One of the locals explained that recently Mendoza had played in San Martin and the fans had been beaten up and the police had let it happen. The Mendozans were looking for revenge but the police weren´t having any of it and so the fans turned on the police. We didn´t think this was something that happened often so were quite suprised that this is the first time a game has been stopped this year...clearly it happens a lot.
"Casa Pueblo" és l'hostal on passarem unes quantes nits. Està molt bé. Senzill però té de tot i est ...
Mendoza, Argentina mariaandeva... wash our hands. I can't even remember the context, but Rachel said one of the funniest things we all heard on the entire trip. She didn't mean for it to sound the way it did, but before going to the bathroom, she yelled to everybody "Don't worry, I'm not washing my hands!" We all laughed, but made a mental note NOT to eat any of her empanadas ... After finishing up the interactive portion of the cooking lesson, we watched ...
Mendoza, Argentina pwong... to try to model the beauty he found in the faces of women who impacted his life. Obviously, it's not enough to make great wine with the latest technology (did I mention the control room that's hooked up to a master wine maker in France who can change the temperature of the fermentation tanks over the Internet based on pH and spectroscopic measurements?). The taste makers and importers must be blown away with a full sensory experience. Recent research ...
Chacras de Coria, Cuyo, Argentina marvinmayhem... We have never seen such a highway. It was awe inspiring and terrifying at the same time.....switchback after switchback. We were surprised to see only one accident along the way. We took a taxi from Mendoza to Chacras de Coria where we stayed until March 22. In our next entry we'll tell you about the Casa Glebinias and our wineries tour. A nice house in the rural areas costs less than $50,000 US$. We're thinking of moving here :)
