This past Sunday was very full and quite wonderful. I went to Cubatão with a student and his wife. He is one of the interns for the 4 churches there: 2 full sized congregations and 2 church plants.

We left early in the morning because we had to go down the mountain. (I'm going to admit, I didn't really understand that São Paulo was on the mountain, well more like plateau and then you have to descend to get to the sea.) The drive was gorgeous once we got ...

This Brazilian beach is very polarized. At the same time that you see young, beautiful, tanned women in thong bikinis and muscular young men in speedos, you can see old, obese, sun-spotted women in... thong bikinis... and very heavy, wrinkly men in... speedos.

The teams contained so many "fancy dans" in the style of Cristiano Ronaldo, with so many step overs that even Gustavo started using the phrase. Although playing on a beach in bare feet helped Jim achieve a long held ambition, he did pay for it. It took him nearly a week to ...

... at Copacabana on the shores of LakeTiticaca at an altitude of 3800m. We hiked to a small island, taking a short cut en route that proved to be anything but a short cut!!! We found ourselves stuck on a sheer cliff falling into the sea! In desperation we rock climbed up a crevice! Les gals gave me moral support as I scrambled up the rocks clinging for deaf life onto small plants! To make matters worse there was a downpour that left us drenched! Finally we made a deal with ...

    Sao Paulo, the big city

... and it was thronged with men, particularly gay men. So far, so good, but later there was quite a bit of ´he looked at me funny´and then it was all on. Thankfully Matt and I had gone for dinner and then retired for the night but our tour friends reported seeing some muggings, beatings and some poor guy getting a bottle smashed over his head. Not my idea of fun, but I think we´ll see worse before we leave Rio. On the brighter side, everything´s ...
