Today I finally got off the plane to Brazil. I went to my hotel at the Hotel casa da Montanha, and by that time is was around 12:30. I wanted to do a little exploring to see what was out there. First I explored the city of Gramado. I took a bus down to Lago Negro (The black lake), and i decided to listen to some cultural music on the way down. I …

... initially out of the Sao Paulo Metropolitan area, the bus started to climb and took us up and over a mountain range completely covered by a green carpet of forest as far as the eye could see as we peered out across the valley below. I have found the people in Curitiba to be very friendly, helpful, and understanding particularly given my incredibly weak grasp of the Portuguese language. But I have heard time and again ...

... me of Middelkerke/Oostende or so, but a lot bigger and more tropical :) So finally. The ocean. How good it felt, these first steps on the sand and in the water! Near the ocean is where I belong.

Santos is a coast town near Sao Paulo, where many many people retire. It is nice, and has the largest garden (Guiness book of Records), I believe it was 8km. Actually a long-spread park next to the ...
