... started and boy did it pour down! The only decision to make thus was to hook us up with a 'real' room for the night at the handily located "Superman" hostel and get a full wash of both clothes and myself. Peter was particularly starting to hum by now so this was a most opportune moment. A relaxing night (sans mattress) would be perfect preparation for a big mileage push tomorrow which would hopefully see us join the pilgrims at Santiago... but would we make ...

... and then. The funny thing was every time we get close to a cape, strong gust come with big swell and breaking waves which made us a little uncomfortable; then as soon as we pass the wind drops and sea calms a little as if it was trying to tell us something?!? The most amazing scene was just before entering the bay of Gijon, this long fish jumped out of the wave then dived into another! Perhaps that was the welcome ...

... of my mum, sister and I on the Roman Bridge in this entry, some may be in the blog itself, others may be at the bottom of the blog, along with others. Spain is very influenced by the places around it, and the places who had conquered it, even if it was conquered about 2’000 years ago, so Spain is quite roman influenced, it’s also very Arabian influenced, because it’s near places like Morocco, which is very Arabian.

... the owners ran like a hostel using AirBnB. There was four or five bedrooms with people in them, I think all with en suites and locks on the door with a shared kitchen. Pretty nice really. The owners were there to meet us but didn’t speak a word of English and we still had almost no Spanish so we did some pointing to be shown around our room and the keys and wifi etc. From there we were shown the the kitchen which was madness – there was about 6 people in there ...

    A very pleasant surprise

We spent a few days in Gijon which was a very interesting town, with a wonderful atmosphere and great cultural activities. We just happened to be there whilst a cultural festival was going on. Each evening there was a concert by the marina, which displayed the various styles of music of the (Asturian) region.

The town itself was fairly modern, with a few hidden gems.

    A most pleasant stay.
