Puerto Plata is the main city on the D.R.'s north coast and was named by Christopher Columbus when he explored the area in 1493. The harbor is guarded by Fortaleza San Felipe, one of the oldest forts in the New World. We had stopped at 2 resorts before our own to drop people off so it was a great opportunity to see the city. We arrived at the resort after dark and I was immediately taken back by the beauty of seeing everything lit up. Don't know why it's taken me so long to venture into the world!!!

... at the beauty of it! I was glad to have my life vest and my helmet at this point! We had to swim to the base of the waterfall and then the guides, who had gone ahead of time, literally lifted us up to the top of this fall.

The whole time I was so grateful for Berny because he took my ziploc-wrapped non-waterproof camera and wrapped it in Rodolfo's shirt and this he wrapped in a black plastic bag! He did all the waterfalls with us and while he swam, ...
