Puerto Plata is the main city on the D.R.'s north coast and was named by Christopher Columbus when he explored the area in 1493. The harbor is guarded by Fortaleza San Felipe, one of the oldest forts in the New World. Some parts of the town are a little ramshackle but in other areas Victorian houses have been nicely renovated so the center part of town including the Parque Central and cathedral are pleasant to stroll through.

Running on the beach in 30 degrees heat and 90% humidity is hard work!!!

I ran barefoot once, sprint training in the soft sand...it was a mistake as all of my toes blistered.

... I'm not saying that if I had gotten in the water and gone snorkeling I would have brought someone to Christ, but I could have grown closer to my family.
