It was pouring down rain today - so despite our unusual early rising we didn't end up heading out into Venice to walk around until after noon. It was pouring- we had an umbrella but by the first basilica, that we hopped into, my feet were drenched and frozen- not so fun. We decided to purchase a basilica pass- if we could get to 4 churches it would pay for itself.

I learned A LOT by asking questions of the volunteer docents at the ...

We woke up this morning serenaded by the beautiful bells from the Basilica of St. Francis. After a typical hotel breakfast we pile on the bus and Antonella greets us with 'Bon Giorno Family, only she stretches it out to fam-i-lee. On our way out of Assisi we pass the beautiful St. Maria de Angelis church, The bus winds its way north toward Venice, passing by the town of Perugia which is famous for chocolate (and the Amanda Knox ...

... in the many lace shops that dotted the main square of this Italian resort village area. The colorful architecture had a very whimsical character and the cookies (bussolas) were delicious! We then spent the rest of the day in St. Mark's Square strolling through the Museum Correr and trying to find a traghetto launch station. In Venice, gondola service is 80 to 100 euros for a half hour tour through the canals. It is only 2 euro for a crossing of the Grand ...

... of sunlight that faded out, so the prisoners would see their last rays of sunlight, which was actually really cool! After going through here, we took a walk to a cheaper area to buy lunch, then shopped our way around this area, then in another little square not too far from here. We then walked to a park, passing this very classy and beautiful shop full of Venetian masks that are all hand made. Sadly, we didn't get to see any getting made, but they were still super cool to look ...
