Back to Chitchin Itza, the culture was astronomically, mathematically and architecturally advanced well before their time, female social services and child protection needing a bit of work.

Get chatting to this American chick on the tour who is with her mother. The inside of my bathroom

... day yesterday. Maybe it had been really bad motion sickness...Mario and I even left the room for breakfast, and I snacked on some dry toast with fresh honeydew melon juice. Donning our bathing suits, we decided to have a lazy day on the beach and no high expectation for what was to come. It is our last day in Mexico, after all, why not just enjoy it?

After a few hours in the sun, reading, I got really tired, so while Mario went for lunch ...

... of the bay. Mario decided to explore beyond the normal boundaries of the path. First, we found ourselves walking behind an old resort-gone-bust which had since been turned residential. Behind that, Mario went exploring a large limestone field, which yielded some great discoveries, such as blow holes spouting water when the big waves hit, and lots of items lost to the same waves, including a matching pair of ...

Akumal, turtles and fish...

... but didn't seemed to be bothered by us. I've got to add that there was a lot of people there from several different tour boats and some who had just swam from the Akumal public beach. After the turtles we headed toward the reef area where we saw many types of fish. There was barracuda, squids, jack fish, sea urchins, and many types I can't name. My underwater pictures didn't turn out to good. I suspect the baggage xray for airport security.

Weekend in Coba

... the corner for help only to be asked to take the bike just next to us half an hour later. Our stay in Coba village itself was not memorable.... there were only 3 hotels to choose to stay in Coba... all of which are undoubtedly overpriced... night life was very very limited and all the restaurants were also overpricing their food menu...all except one, which was just behind a ...

Pez Maya Expedition

... for "where the sky is born." The biosphere is very much like a huge oceanfront national park and what's not ocean is Mexican jungle complete with Toucans and pumas! We haven't seen either of those yet, but we seen many iguanas, geckos, ospreys, frigate birds, hermit crabs, and a big highlight of the trip so far - the release of 77 tiny baby Green Turtles (Tortuga Verde) into the ocean after they hatched from their nest!! What an ...

... back, so don't misconstrue our ABR review to be negative - just honest. That said, there were cracks in the drywall, the bedding had wear and tear (and a B.O. smell) and the plumbing wasn't too good. None of this affected the great time we were about to have - so there you have it. It was a fleeting 1 minute thought for us and that's it. (It took way longer to type that than the time we spent thinking about it there!) Time to put that to rest and get on with the vacation ...

Day 5 - Our Own Private Beach

... blanket, sunblock, and other stuff so that one of us can carry our load while we decide to "run down the beach road". I suppose I drew the short straw, and played the part of the mule in our road trip. We began our run with full intentions of making it all the way down the beach road past all the hotels. After all, we run marathons (darn it) and this couldn't be more than a 10K or so. A little trivia is in order. The Austin ...

Day 3 - A Good Food Day

... dinner, and my second glass of merlot, we wander down to the street in a food coma (and wine buzz). But unlike in town, you don't simply wave your hand for a cab on the beach road. Luckily, another couple came out and had Posada call them a cab. They were from the UK, a friendly couple, and shared the ride with us. They were staying at Azulik, which was right next door to Copal, so all worked out quite well. Ahh, I'll sleep good tonight.
