In the beginning......

... dried shrimps, Christmas lights, raw ducks.......In the end I stopped and had some lunch from a stall as I needed the energy to carry on fighting my way out of the place. Eventually some kid on a sweet stall who had probably seen me walk past about seven times told me to go through the shoes (about half a kilometre of them) and hang a left and bingo - I have never been so happy to see a Metro station in my life.

On Saturday I decided to stay away from the smoggy city centre ...

... under a steel-roof structure protected a recently-excavated house. After wondering around in the house for twenty minutes, with barely a let-up, we decided to press on to the Temple of the Sun, hoping to get a chance to climb to the top before the entire place closed at 5. As we moshed through sodden grass plazas, we started seeing flashes on the horizon, and before we knew it we were in the middle of a vicious, slightly worrisome lighting storm. After ...

... much noise. We went out and got some flowers and wine for Katrina and Edgar. We found a really cool little plaza place that sold wine with customised labels and I got a beautiful bunch of flowers for absolutly nothing. I should have asked how much they were before he wrapped them up - could have had triple what I had in my hand.

Katrina and Edgar took us out to Tepotzotlan for a Sunday stroll around the market. ... t loomed large on my mind in the last few days, the increasing panic in the air is bringing it to my attention. So far it has been reported that the confirmed cases of deaths as a result of the swine virus had been in children, yet no one knew how it was transmitted and with why with such high instances of mortality. Elsewhere in the city, it seemed business as usual as restaurants and bars filled up for the evening and traffic kicked itself into high ...

... up and helped us out. One time when Clare´s metro (subway) ticket didn't work at the turnstiles a fella happily handed her a new one. However an eye opener was the military presence in the Zocalo, a truck full of armed troops was always on hand around the government buildings. On a Sunday took the metro to the massive city park, Chapaultepec, which was full of families and markets and muesems. We visited the Museo de Anthropoligica, one of, if not the, largest ...

Feliz anos neuve to all... Claire and I met up successfully in LA. She's in fine form and is great to see her again. Our travels to Mexico City were without any complications. We spent 7days in Cuidad de Mexico, which was fantastic.... Its such a happening place and the people we have interacted with have been absolutely lovely. Our Anos Nueve (New Year) was pretty tame. We were ...

This morning we got on the airplane. We had to get there 3 hours early so we woke up at 6 am. Everyone was so tired. We packed up our backpacks and our daypacks. My bag is so heavy. But it only weights half the amount of my dads. We waited for three hours on in the airport. My mom met this lady who was `coming to Mexico with ...

... it more or less through luck, we found ourselves at the ticket office for the metro. Despite having changed a note for smaller notes, we still found ourselves having to pay for two tickets at 2 pesos each with a 50 peso note. Unpopular with the ticket lady, but with metro tickets and change in our pockets, we proceeded to navigate the metro system. The first metro ride was relatively easy and we got off at the station to change lines and found our way to ...

Mexico City: the arrival: Vodka et al

... no lights - The basket is in fact a skeleton in iron covered in what we know as garbage bags. The 2 men have difficulties balancing. - They do NOT clean windows but SEEM to restore the decoration on the façade. - The house is a jewelry shop!!! None of the police men/women seem to blink on this. Back in the room, it is hot and very, very noisy, although we are at the 6th floor. We do not quite understand what the noises are but we will tomorrow.
