Acapulco during the early 2000's was a haven for sun-seeking, bar hopping tourists until war between drug cartels normally concentrated within the suburbs of Acapulco spilled toward the beachfront. None more publicized than the 2008 killing of 2 Canadian tourists by stray bullets in front of their hotel lobby. During the past year recent beheadings made the front page, most sinister being a drug lords face being stapled to a soccer ball and thrown into the street. ...

Once out on the street we passes one restaurant/bar/disco after another...everyone empty except for the hawkers outside offering coupons to potential patrons.
