Final destination CUSCO!! We have reached the final stop for our 2 week trip into the south of Peru, I´m very sad but then I remember I still have 10 more days in Lima after thankfully! We started off our trip from Puno to Cusco on a great foot, we were booked first class on the train ride thank god for first class! it is a 10 hour ride! If you are going to take the train from Puno I suggest taking the train, it´s 4 hours longer than the bus but it´s totally worth it. Especially in First Clas...
Cusco, Peru 613flavahI was born in Lima, Peru, and lived there till I was about 6 months old when we left to Aruba and thereafter to Puerto Rico. I went back annually for several years to visit family and friends, but since about 20 years ago I have only been back a handful of times, and those had been short business trips. Till this day I can't say that I really know Peru so what better way to start than going to see Cusco (http://www.cuscoperu.com/) and Machu Picchu (http://www.machupicchu.perucultural.or g.pe/...
Cusco, Peru a3dennertHi all Its been a while since we last wrote on the blog. We're now in Chile (more to come on that) but our past few days have been spent in Cuzco, the Sacred Valley and of course, Machu Picchu. We arrived from Lima into Cuzco in the afternoon, everyone you talk to in Lima warns you about the altitude so we had taken our cab drivers advice and bought some diomox in the airport which we took before getting onto the flight. There are regular flights from Lima to Cuzco, its actually like a bus s...

... a small boy carrying the entrails of a cow, wrapped up in the stomach of said animal. Kindof puts me off any meat based meals for awhile. Also had some local grog ´cerveche´(poor spelling) - a corn based beverage that has some alcohol in it. The lady was brewing it street side, and despite looking a bit less than sanitary (including scooping insects that laded in the pail), we drank it. So far....so good!!

... country - what else can they do to pass the time? :) )
After paying for the jump, a taxi driver came and took us to Puroy a small town near Cusco, where I was strapped to a harness and went up a box cart to 122 meters in the air, and after a frightening moment I jumped out.... just thinking back on it I get my heart pumping ...
... It feels so good to be without a car, even though we took a taxi twice that cost us less than 50 cents. I just can't get over how cheap everything is. I have found that Nikolas gets A LOT of stares. They are probably trying to figure out where he is from.
All I can say is this is all so worth it! Im loving everything about our stay in Cusco especially the orphanage. I was a bit worried as Im not much of a kid person, but stepping ...
... including a policeman. A woman comes out of the hotel where the ATM is located and says to give her the money. Julio is concerned for her and wants to take her to a doctor. He speaks with the policeman who says that the woman has been drinking and that is the reason that she didn’t get out of the way of the car. Julio and Jaime escort the woman to the clinic that is about two blocks away; he offers to drive her ...
Huilloc, Cusco, Peru journeyer... the local women wear bright red cardigans and big skirts, its very distinct. The men work hard in the fields or building sites and it's the women and children that mainly sell at stalls. People are very poor and in this touristy town it makes me feel a little uneasy with so much wealth being flauted about. But overall the feeling is quite nice here. Shane had a cold shower unfortunately so I went in search of one that would deliver hot. The night before I had a warm shower and ...
Cusco, Peru shanemilli... a bowl of wonton soup, plus fried rice and a dish. All that for 12 soles ($4) ! We had fried wonton with some meat and shrimp inside as appetizer, and that was very delicious !
Tummies all happy, we walked out of the chifa and looked for some churros for dessert, but we were all so full we just ended up sitting in a small eatery for some coffee, watched people go by, and gave our tummies some time digest all the chifa we´ve had. The ...
... came off and we had to all shout to get the bus to stop to make them realize! J
Collpapampa was a real treat, just what was needed during what was a long and exhausting trek. My legs were so tired and I was EVER so eager to go and experience what were allegedly some of the best Hot Springs in South America. After leaving our bags at what could by comparison to our previous nights accommodation be classed as a relative ‘holiday resort’, the various tour groups were put ...
