Cusco

Day 16 Cusco city Well they say that Cusco is a different experience with the city being located at 3500m above sea level and you think to yourself what a bunch of hooey, you know that I have never lived anywhere than sea level that its all in their heads you know how different can it be its still air isn't. The trouble is that there is not enough of it so you have to suck in twice as much and this takes more effort and if you forget to do the right breathing you know you forget and revert ba...

Cusco for the Day

Day 20 Cusco Well I finally did it, last night after I arrived back in Cusco from Aguas Calientes I did something that I have been talking about for months now. Now I must stress that if you have any furry little pets at home that belong to the vermin family skip to the next paragraph now...............................OK now that they have gone I went to the Andean Grill for dinner and selected from the menu "coy" pronounced "Gooee" which is Guineas Pig. So it came out on a sizzle platter sti...

Oasis in the Desert

Huacachina is built around a small lake in the desert. Called the "oasis of America" The area is marvellous and seeing the sand dunes at first light is an experience in itself. That morning I took a dune buggy and sand boarding trip which is operated by the hostel. This is a must do experience for anyone travelling in this region. The dune buggies are basically a roll cage on wheels with an engine that would put any rev-head in their element. The speed that these vehicles reach is exhilaratin...

Cusco...again!

30/07/2008 - 03/08/2008 We decided we'd had enough of Cusco really so we booked a bus to Ica on the coast and spent the next few days going round the general sites of Cusco, starting with the Church and Convent of La Merced which has a beautiful courtyard surrounded by paintings, and holds the worlds 2nd largest pearl in the shape of a mermaid, which was quite a dissapointing size really! Although I was expecting something huge I guess but never mind aye. We later went for a tour of the Cathe...

Day 2

The flight was a pleasant short hop from Lima. The altitude is twice that of Denver, so be prepared for some altitude sickness. The least you will feel is a little head ache. I tried the tea but it didn't seem to do much. It is important to stay hydrated and Gatorade seems the best. It is amazing how people can build on the side of a mountain and the sun was very pleasant.

The Peruvian Adventure

Back a Cuzco we were able to see more examples of the great Incan empire. Sights like Sacsayhuaman and the Sacred valley were unbelievable. We even spent time at a gigantic open market

... theatre. It was FANTASTIC!! It was a lot like cirque de soleil in teh showmanship (the acrobatics were great, thought not on the same level). It showed a lot of the traditional peruvian dances, but very styelized and made part of a story with costumes and wonderful music and comedy and everything you could hope for. I loved it.

I´m sure there´s much more to tell, but I think I´m going to wind this up. Tomorrow we´re heading for Machu Pichu!

xoxoxo Em
