Excellent hotel providing refuge in a grim town. Easy walk to main square and interesting walking street. Room clean and warm with heating and electric blankets. We had good wifi in the room too but believe other rooms don't. The staff are very good. The restaurant very good too. We had a good sandwich for lunch and the breakfast was very good but a bit cramped at the buffet with large number of people leaving early.

We were collected from our hotel at 8.45 am and set off out of Areqipa with a small group through insane traffic. The outskirts of the city housing new arrivals who build themselves tiny mud brick boxes to live in, often without basic services. They live amongst dust and rubble in the most grim of circumstances. Once we cleared the city the scenery …

... one of my blisters gets a lot worse. I think its ripped(it had). Its gonna be a painful 1100 metre climb outta here, not that it wasnt going to be anyway. Amanda has her homing legs on. Its also blowing a gale, blowing grit in our eyes(am still picking it out 2 days later) and dislodging small rocks. We hear, its not we round the corner of another switchback we see 2 men trying to push a huge boulder to the side of ...
