Wednesday 30th October
We needed the early start because we have a 7.30 collection this morning for the 8.30 ferry to Langkawi. I have (rashly) been reading about the ferry which I had thought would be a large and lumbering transport with an outside deck, handy for bad sea travellers, but apparently is a smallish fast boat (or …
Langkawi is possibly one of the most beautiful, laid back islands we will ever visit. We arrived mid afternoon at the airport and jumped in a cab, £4 direct to the hotel. The hotel greeted us with our names and in we went. The hotel Casa Del mar is a small hotel 34 rooms, a very friendly enviroment. The staff treat it as it was there home and …
... Oriental Village, from where the cable car starts, 30 ringitt each way, so not cheap, but there's no transport here but taxi or scooter hire. Think I'm gonna take the plunge and rent one soon, it really is the only way to get about in Asia, though my handicap of never having ridden one may be interesting. I then had to pay another 30 to go up (foreigner price), natives pay half, how fair is that! Driving there and looking at the mountain it didn't seem all ...
... a signal. So there I am sat outside at 1am online checking what the deal is with getting a ferry to Thailand. I'm thinking of going to Ko Lips as it's a gem apparently, then possibly onto Ko Lanta. Trying to figure out best way to do it (cheapest), as I can either get a spped boat from zlangkawi straight to the island or get a ferry up to Satan on the mainland and get a connecting ferry from there, homework to ...
... at the cost of 50 Thai baht (£1). The island is pretty indescribable. It is paradise in every sense of the word blue skies, white sandy beaches, cheap food, even cheaper beer and coral reefs too! We arrived at the room around 11am dumped the bags and went to explore the island. You can walk across it in 10 min and walk around it in 20 min so we went to sunrise beach to take it all in grab a snorkel and cholla out for the rest of the day. I found one to hire ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Casa del Mar, Langkawi Pantai Cenang
The Casa Del Mar and its unbelievable staff were incredible! After many hours on the internet trying to determine were to stay when every hotel on the island sounded so good, I made the perfect choice. Our five night stay was way to short. We've stayed at many 4/5-star hotels, but never felt the attentiveness we did at Casa Del Mar. They could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Our room (not one of the suites) was great. Though no worries about that, every room at the casa Del Mar not only faces the sea, but is 10 paces from the beach, and literally 30 paces from the water. Also, with just 29 rooms (and the hotel being full during our stay), we never waited for a table in the restaurant, a lounge at the pool or beach, or a stool at the bar. The spectacular sunset that came daily was postcard quality. One day we hired the resort owned boat with captain and crew for a private island hopping tour. Total cost of RM 400 for six hours, which included a picnic lunch on an uninhabited island all by ourselves. The sights and scenery were breathtaking. One night after arriving back at the hotel late (about 23:00) and hungry, we found that the restaurant was closed. Upon inquiry, the manager reopened the kitchen and then set a table out on the beach and proceeded to serve us the best meal we ate the whole time we were there. I must say, we have never before left a hotel and felt like we had just left a friend's home, until our departure from the Casa Del Mar. We are not sure when we will be returning to Langkawi, but when we do, we will be staying at the Casa Del Mar. Special thanks to Andrew, Sandi, Susan, Wira, Amir, Jalal, "Smiley", Wan and the rest of tireless staff at the Casa Del Mar.
I was originally booked into one of the large resort hotels on Langkawi, but read a few 'iffy' reviews in Tripadvisor, and switched to the Casa del Mar. I was really glad we did this.
We have just returned from a 9 night stay at Casa Del Mar and can simply say it was perfect. The hotel and outlook are beautiful. The staff at the hotel are the best I have ever encountered, they are friendly, informative and nothing is ever too much trouble. The personal touches are brilliant, afforded by the small number of rooms and guests and the staff and management attitudes. Our fist time in Langkawi and the island is amazing, but the Casa Del Mar itself will be our greatest lasting memory of the trip. If you are thinking of staying anywhere else... don't !!
We stayed here for the first few nights of our honeymoon and loved it. The standard of the whole hotel was very high and the service was excellent. We were made to feel very welcome.
Our wedding was in May 02. It was the shoulder season towards the peak where summer vacationers from the west would be flocking to the tropical islands like Langkawi. Our stay was about a week. This boutique hotel is smallish in size, centrally located and is highly recommended for couples looking for a tranquil holiday amidst the luxury of high standards of service from the hotel.
We have just returned from a 5 night stay in a Suite at the Casa Del Mar, our third visit to Langkawi.
Case del mar is fabulous - a great place to chill!
A lovely hotel near the sea with excellent service. The staff go beyond their call of duty. I have never met such friendly and genuine people.
The quality of meals were first class and menu extensive.
We have just returned back from a wonderful stay at the Casa Del Mar Hotel in Langkawi. We absolutely loved every minute of our stay!!!
A great hotel
I have just returned from the Casa Del Mar, and i must say it was a great hotel. The level of service we recieved from all the member of staff at the hotel was outstanding.
The hotel itself is in a good location, has a decent size pool, and benefits form having a very acomplished chef!
I would definately recommend this place to my friends, and hope to return here again some day soon!
