    Arraial d'Ajuda

... I waited and waited. I sat in the hammock and read my book for nearly 2 hours. Then a man emerged, he had obviously been sleeping. Without much of a sorry he got me checked in. I wasn't very impressed. I had read good reviews about the staff and I didn't think much of him. He didn't speak English so it was hard for me to communicate with him too. I dumped my stuff and went for a wander to find water and to check out the place a bit. It looked like a fun ...

... and horses with carts are the only taxi. We spent the day sitting on a point where the river and ocean meet. Again, beautiful beaches and a young, backpacker vibe permeated from this place (except for the rich elitists in their helicopters). It's been hot and the beers have been impressively ice cold everywhere in Brazil. There were a few "bars" set up on the beach... People with tents, coolers, a little fruit and a few bottles of hard liquor. We paid another $15 Reals ...

Today I packed up all my things to go to another city in Brazil. I am starting to really like the idea of staying somewhere different every night. This time I am staying in Trancoso. I wanted to visit all the nice beaches here because I heard great things about them. I am young and I love to listen to music, and so do all the Brazilians here. They have a great sense in music. I made my way down to Natives beach ...

... the streets as Police watch on, impassively. Honestly, this makes Booze Britain look like a tea-party round your nan's. There are make-shift bars dotted along the high-way serving something called 'Ten Seconds'. Groups of youngsters crowd around while, at one place, the seventy-year old looking 'barmaid' shouts "Vai! Vai! Vai!" (Go! Go! Go!) at a young girl sucking from a straw in a large shot glass of Creme De Menthe whilst she refills the same glass with two ...

    A bit of beach time

... 3 lads, the owner brought us an extra mattress so we'd effectively have a bed each - Rees drawing the double - and we made ourselves at home. We spent the next 2 days exploring the small town and hanging out on the beach. We watched the Australia Netherlands game, which featured Tim Cahill's cracking goal, in a small bar on the beach next to 5 Aussies, Foz bought everything he could from sellers on the beach until he was literally cashless, we chatted to a few locals who loved ...
