Wednesday, 6/26: We woke to a damp but cooler
morning, packed up, and decided to drive over to the viewpoint to see Clifty
Falls, the park's namesake. There were lots of nice, challenging trails in the
park, but this one to the falls viewpoint was short and paved. The view into
the wooded canyon was beautiful in the early morning mist; no one else around

Finally, much to our dismay, we were forced to rent a Uhaul and drive into Virginia. Live to ride another day! ...

... The landscape turned to rolling hills and grazing pastures.

MAX MEADOWS: Situated in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains, this expansive valley supports a vast farming community. Although most farms are about 30 acres in size, the grass is so high in nutrients that raising cattle is not a problem. When it rains here, it pours and getting 4 inches in one day is normal. We stayed at the Fort Chiswell RV Park.
