    Our first break from school is finished. Although it seemed a little early for a holiday, we were ready for one! We flew to Tokyo last Saturday from Hong Kong, but stayed at the airport, away from the demonstrations. It was interesting to see the contrasts between Japan and our part of China.

    ... for the week. Yesterday we walked over to the hotel where we get the shuttle to Hong Kong and got out tickets for that, everything has to be planned out - nothing happens spontaneously here for us!

    I'll add a few pictures from the week. We're having our first guest for supper tonight, featuring recipes from Sandra and Blanche - thanks ladies!

    ... this is quite common apparently and remember that we are a private school in a city with a LOT of wealthy people.
    I received flowers from 2 students this week, a teacher appreciation day and at the International Banquet at school. That was really interesting! we had a Meet the Teacher segment and then parents and staff gathered in the common area and brought traditional food from their home country. The room was decorated ...

    to Carrefour (bigger than Walmart) and bought another mattress topper for our
    bed. The mattresses are just box springs
    and hard as a board so all the new teachers go searching for toppers.
    We got one which we put on top of the 2 already there – a bit like the
    princess and the pea, but think this might do the trick. – fingers crossed!

    ... me a cold drink and 2 fabulous desserts from Starbucks Friday afternoon. The bakery just behind our building has delicious custard tarts. I'm not worried too much about gaining weight right now because I'm sweating buckets. Tim is going to be down to his highschool wrestling weight!
