Singapie!

Ann is next to me dissecting a pie atm! We have arrived in civilisation aka Singapore, and its cleanliness and chineseness is overwhelming. No more do we need to fight our way over broken assault course like pavements or play "chicken" with vehicles to claim our right of way! Its "Food Fest Round the World 2006" continued I tell ya. Getting back in touch with modern amenities is a bit of a shock to the system, but its nice to adjust back. Although in a way it does feel like cheating. Why? Rea...

Introduction to Dirtbiking

Hi guys, I chanced upon this forum via Google search.

There is a newly opened adventure centre located at Pengerang, Malaysia. The journey is 45 mins bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal in Singapore. They offer outdoor activities such as dirtbiking, pitbiking, wakeboarding and ATV rides. =)

Training is provided for dirtbiking and wakeboarding activities. For wakeboarding, you only have to pay for the time spent on riding. Travelling time from the par...

After a long flight, or rather the first chance I'd had in what felt like months to just sit and relax, I arrived in Singapore. Upon arriving at my hotel, the fabulously located Carlton Hotel, I wandered across the road to the Raffels Hotel and sampled the famous Singapore Sling, guaranteed to relax me and help me sleep better! The following morning I rose late (that Singapore Sling worked!) and left the hotel to a rainy day. I believe this is quite normal for Singapore so I decided that I wo...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Carlton Singapore

Great Location

from Denise07012
Wonderful location within easy walking distance to Parco Bugis Junction shopping complex (and its wonderful food court). Easy 5 minute walk to both City Hall and Bugis MRT stations. Great view from room overlooking pool, the back of Raffles Hotel and Raffles City Shopping Complex. Bus stops very close by. Lovely and extensive breakfast buffet. Room was very comfortable, but the bathroom need updating (dull olive green colour with some mouldy grouting between the tiles). Will stay there again.

Tea please

from eralmom
Had a wonderful stay at the Carlton but hubby was a bit upset that

the housekeeping staff never replenished the complimentary tea and coffee provided with the room. We stayed 3 1/2 nights. The wetbar was restocked everyday but tea and coffee was not. I had to ask the housekeeping staff when I spotted her in the hall. Very good rate booked online. We opted for the special refurbished room rate and got upgraded to a bettter room upon arrival at no additional charge.

Great location as it is just down the road from the MRT station and within walking distance to a lot of shopping. The room service was very tasty. But if you want something cheaper, try the Bread Store down the road. There was a great one bun for one dollar campaign going on while we were there. And the coffee is very cheap compared to the $4 cup of coffee offered at Starbucks.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Even the non-english speaking housekeeping staff were very accomodating. After a bit of confusion, I eventually caught on to what they were saying.

Try to avoid the tour desks unless you are planning on booking a tour with them. They are very sell, sell, sell and don't like to spend much time talking with you if you have no intention of booking.

Good Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
It is a very nice hotel in a very good location.

I only stayed for one night but my room was very good. They let me in the room at 8:00 am since I arrived early (very nice of them).

Very clean and large room. The bed was excellent.

The design is not as trendy as the gallery hotel but the location is better and the hotel is much cleaner.

When I made the booking my impression was that the broadband was free but actually they do charge 20 SGD per day. They do have wi-fi but the price is even higher.

I do recommend it. I did pay 90 usd per night which is not high for the quality of the hotel. The same hotel would probably cost much more than 140 usd in the US.

Can't go wrong at The Carlton

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have just spent 5 nights at the Carlton and it was a great experience. We had a deluxe room on 20th floor with a fantastic view of the city and out to the harbour. The room and bathroom were both extremely clean and comfortable, although the bathroom was a little on the small side. The hotel is in an excellent position, and has been stated in previous reveiews, right next door to Raffles Hotel where I would thouroughly recommend breakfast. The staff at the hotel were polite and helpful at all times. We had occasion to complain about the level of noise in the room next door to us, where several people were holding their own party at about 3am. We complained to the duty manager, and everything was dealt with very quickly with apologies from staff the next morning.

I would certainly return to the Carlton

Excellent hotel!

My wife and I stayed at the Carlton for a week and thoroughly enjoyed its facilities, location and superb customer service. We choose it as part of the Singapore Stopover package offered by Singapore airlines with an excellent rate.

Arriving into Singapore at 6:40AM after a 12+ hour flight from Amsterdam, we were not looking forward to waiting until 14:00, their official check-in time. Fortunately upon arriving at the hotel at 8AM, the reception desk expedited a room for us while we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. For the 90 min+ "wait" we received a room upgrade with a harbor/city skyline view (see picture attached) .

The room was very clean, modern and well-maintained.

The location is superb, just a few minutes walk to the posh Raffles City mall which connects with the implicitely clean city subway and other malls via an underground walkway lined with stores. The SIA Hop-on bus also stops just a short walk away at the Raffles hotel.

Right across the street from the hotel entrance is Chijmes, a chic collection of outdoor restaurants.

All in all, a very positive experience. We highly recommend the hotel.

Location, location.

Location is fantastic, Raffles on one corner, Raffles city Plaza on the other and Chimes on another. You can catch MRT from the Raffles city Plaza, also walk underground all the way to Suntec, excellent way to keep out of the heat and lots of shops to look at. Chimes is so beautiful at night with many bars and excellent restaurants (expensive). Hop on hop off bus stops at Raffles. Hotel room was great, small bathroom. Took too long at check- in considering we had booked 6 weeks in advance.

Very surprised when porter asked how much we paid for room!

Breakfast staff, in particular girl at desk, need a lesson in manners and how to smile. Hotel should invest in new toaster, I stood in line with six other people while one woman put her bread through four times before it was sufficiently brown!!

I would return for the location, cleanliness of the rooms, but go out for a friendly breakfast!

Very good for a leisure stay at Singapore!

With my husband I stayed at the Carlton for a week, from 4 - 11 March 2005 for a vacation. The hotel rooms are new and well equipped and were properly cleaned everyday. The pool area is pleasant, with sunbeds, umbrella's and chairs. Towels are provided and there is also a poolbar. The pool however is not big. Pictures on the website of the Carlton make it look bigger than it is in reality!

The breakfast is very good, western and asian dishes, yoghurts, cornflakes, fresh fruit danish pastries & muffins, a toaster and 2 cooks who bake omelettes and waffles. Coffee/tea are served by the waiters. The only negative things I could say of the breakbast room is that you need a cardigan, as the airco is blowing you away! But that seems to be common practice in hotels in Singapore. And sometimes you have to wait before you get your coffee/tea. In the morning one can be dying for it, so patience is requested at times when waiters don't see you or are just too busy.

The Carlton is located very convenient for sight seeing. 15 minutes walk to boat quay and little India. City Mall shopping centre is just a 2 minute walk, Chimes restaurant area is opposite the Carlton. And some hawker centra were you can dine for Euro 3 are also nearby.

We had a very nice, relaxing stay at The Carlton. I surely can recommend it if you stay at Singapore for leisure.

Superb

Just back from 6 days at the Carlton. Wonderfully run hotel. If you choose it as your Singapore stopover hotel you will be able to enjoy the food which is superb at 50% off. Many other goodies come with a Singapore Airlines stopover pkg which make it a tremendous value..

Our post cards posted at reception were back to Canada in a flash.

Wonderful!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Carlton Hotel, Singapore and had a wonderful holiday experience. The rooms were clean and perfect for coming back and relaxing after a long, hot day of sightseeing. The breakfast was amazing and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is perfectly located to get around easily and right next door to the famous Raffles Hotel. It was reasonably priced and we would definitely stay there again!!! One bad thing that i must add - don't post any letters through reception...we did and it never arrived!!!
