Hamilton Academical v Hearts 6/12/2009

Travelled from Fife over to West of Scotland and Hamilton, just south of Glasgow.
Watched the game which Hamilton won 2-1 and really enjoyed the atmosphere. On the radio on the way home though learned that there had been fighting in the players tunnel after the game and the Police had been involved. Boys will be boys!!
Sat with the Hearts fans ... not happy! Team were poor and they can see their club is in decline!

The Heart of Scotland

After about a 4 hours drive we headed straight into Glasgow. Had a quick tour of the city and then a visit to the oldest Pub in Glasgow. On sitting down we soon realised we had just sat beside the village idiot! His conversation ranged from him being in a "Black hole" in and out of Hell, his skill at being a match maker and how "Men would hit their sons and their sons would hit ...

In the land of kilts, fish and chips.

The next destination on our trip was to Scotland. Now, this is a place I have had on my list to see for a long time. The chance to finally experience it and see it in its full glory was awesome! We landed pretty much on top of water and were able to see the water the entire train ride into Glasgow.

When we arrived at the train station in Glasgow, the group got separated and we decided to wait for them and get a coffee ...

Roundabouts and One-way-streets?? riiight.

... actual city of Glasgow yet. It looks unreal beautiful though. Big city but with a real calmness to it...not the usual hustle and bustle of other big cities. We are getting up early and going to catch some city sights tomorrow. ALso, I almost died when the car rental gentleman gave us a free upgrade to a shining black Mercedes Benz buggy to cannonball around with...full coverage so if any crazy Scottish men run us off the roads, we are covered full tilt!

Och Aye Laddie

... sleeping bags are just for authenticity). I meet mum's friends, who are camping with us - the lovely Tricia, Una and Karen. The women are busy building the tent as I managed to stumble out the car with about eighteen layers on, including two waterproof jackets. I quickly slip into a typical Scottish male role as the tent is being constructed, my main function is basically hitting the odd pole into the ground, mumbling and generally being as useful as ...

Farewell, Glasgow!

... Thanks for taking a break from Harry Potter and his Deathly Hallows and dropping by to say hello." (Yes, it's true - today's the day. The bookshop windows here are all but shrieking the news to the heavens, and I must restrain myself from trying to justify the need for a British-cover Book 7 to complement my American-cover Book 7 that Holli is undoubtedly poring over as we speak.) Yesterday was actually quite fun - found another museum that ...

Glasgow

... and Dunedin, the buildings were sort of the same style and the street names were the same, but they're not as similar as Dunedin promoters would have you believe. Despite dumping half our stuff in London, somehow we still managed to fill our small rental car. The drive up to Stirling was interesting, as Jonny is yet to figure out the speed limit, and keeps turning on the windscreen wipers every time he wants to indicate! On arrival at our first ...

A Guide to St. Andrews

... a free day in April), walk the West sands out to the estuary when the tide is out. Walk down to the West sands when the tide is in too. What a difference!! Check out Market Street, the main street with all the shops, and south street as well. There's the aquarium which I never did, but if you're so inclined. The British Golf Museum which I also never did. How bad am I? I might go back and do that. Then there's the Himalaya's putting course on the way to the Links ...
