... taxi ride up into a town called Minka, which is a pretty tiny mountain town. It's mainly an ecotourism place, with a handful of hostels, some waterfalls, and many outdoor adventures a short distance away. We took more moto taxis up to a coffee farm called La Victoria. The place goes straight up the mountains and apparently had 35 or so families who live spread throughout all the coffee plants, who do the harvesting. ... infection. I took medicine and was feeling well enough to look around the town. We didn't have any particular plans other than wandering. We walked to a mountain river a mile from the hostel. There were huge rocks all around us and the water was cold and refreshing. We climbed up and around the rocks and tried to avoid getting too wet.

... are very strong and quite amazing. While the men work clearing the trail, the women crochet traditional bags in which they carry their belongings. They do this while walking barefoot through the jungle, carrying a baby in a bag hanging from their foreheads. Amazing. ... is party night in this small town, so after sharing out a bottle of room (attained through the bars of a backstreet kiosk whose entire stock consisted of beer and rum), we embraced the colombian party spirit.

This turned out to be a very good idea as numbed the sense for next days hair raising encounter between us, an undesirable looking wooden boat and some jolly large and angry looking waves. More to follow
