Check "climb the falls" off our bucket list

... 20 other people. There is a guide for each group of people and a videographer, and there are multiple groups going up the falls at a time, each following a different path and often criss-crossing each other. You start at the bottom, at the beach, and wind your way up these falls, helping your group mates along the way. Andy did not climb the falls with us, choosing instead to chart our progress along the dry walking route. This was a wise choice on his part and with his back ...

No!! We don't want a taxi....

The ship docks at Ochos Rios in Jamaica so we decided to just do a little shopping onshore .Jamaica is a fairly poor country so competition is very strong for any sort of business that they can get. After you leave the ship it's a kilometre walk down to a few shopping centres. About 15 different people asked if we wanted a taxi and then once in the stores the store ...

Port of Call for the big cruise ship

Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

... slower pace like we had in Maui. After the zip-line adventure there were refreshments for us to purchase. Soon after our short rest, we got to hike back through some of the Jamaican forest on our way back to where the bus would be waiting for us. Along the way, there were lots of picture taking opportunities. It was a fun adventure and it was worth the time and money.

Italian Charm with a Caribbean vibe.

... of the famous Dunn's River Falls. At the time, the pool was the largest in Jamaica.

Watersports
When we stayed here in 2007, I really got to know several of the watersports staff. Just like other Sandals these guys are some of the friendliest people you will meet in Jamaica. Plain and simple they have a great job and they love it. So coming back in 2008 was such a joy to catch up with old friends. If you like to sail ...

Saint Bonaventure Jamaica Service Trip 2008

... myself because I realized someone actually cared that we were there at all. Three of us walked out to get pizza this evening. Pineapple pizza to be precise and it was wonderful. Slept. Friday comes and we are unsure if our trip to Trenchtown will proceed as someone was gunned down the previous day. The government stress of that poor island is staggering. We were told we had a wise old woman as a guide and we headed in. We passed by the house Bob Marley grew up in. She took us ...

My birthday trip - first time in Ocho Rios

... I sat out on the veranda for a while enjoying the heat and watching locals on their way to work. We were in no rush to get to Ocho Rios, 1.5 hours away. There were a few people I had to connect with on this trip. A girl from our chat forum had sent me down with several pairs of flip-flops for some family members in Jamaica, and another girl sent me down with some cell phone accessories for her Jamaican fiance. Its always difficult shipping things to ...

Day 2 and 3

... no real reason. Then we went to Bayside and had an awesome breakfast buffet. Then around 10am we went to the new pool and bar and played pool volleyball. After a while we decided to check out the Manor pool where we spent all of our time last year. We swam until about 12:15pm and then went to the Market for a great buffet lunch. We are ...

Blue Mountain Trip

... nature, and being quiet. But duty calls, I must return to my responsibilities in Ochi. Even though I was only there for 2 days, it was an adjustment to return to the city and the heat. I definitely will go back in the next 10 months, before I leave Jamaica. If you have the opportunity to come to Jamaica, skip the resort scene and journey to the Blues, you will see the real Jamaica. I took some photos along the way so take a look for yourself. Take care. Peace, Jenni

I Came. I Saw. I LEFT!

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.
